box building

I am building a box for a polk mm2104 sub to go behind the seat in my dakota. I was wondering if anyone here could design, help me design or point me in the direction fo a designing software.

I know I will need measurements and such for the space it needs to fit into I will be tkaing those tomorrow. I take a shop class at my school so my treacher said if I bring the mdf in after school she'll let me use the machines. I have acess too a large table saw, radial arm saw, band saw, jig saw, router and circular saw.

this is the last thing before I start trying to do some of the local meca events and I am getting excited.

Brace the snot out of it.

Caulk.

Screws.

Measure twice, cut once.

Take your time.

Its ALOT easier to take the piece off and trim it than sand it flat for 10 minutes...

Wear a dust mask, MDF is nasty.

can a table saw cut a 15 and a 105 degree miter?

if I put my momo facing back with 1 inch between it and the back of my cab will it sound muffled?

I figured roughly my box volume out to be 2025 inches square(no subtracting side wall thickness, but I plan on using 3/5 MDF) does this sound incorrect it is 15 tall, 4.5 deep at the top, 9 deep at the bottom, and 20 wide.

is there a way to figure out if my momo 10 inch would fit if it is mounted 1.5-2 inches from the bottom on a the rear vertical board. i made to scale drawing on graph paper if you want me to scan and post.

using mcleod's calculator I found my enclosure to be .759 ft3, polk suggests .66 should I make the enclosure smaller?

what amp are you going to have on it?

Yes. Try to get as close as possible to the .66

Actually, Id probably leave it the way you have it at your .75ft^3

right now it is in a .65ft^3 enclosure and it seems to have a very nasty curve. polk suggests .66ft^3 but online for flat repsonse the calculators show it should have around .89-.92ft^3

if I put the subwoofer firing toward the rear with 1-2 inches between it and the rear cab wall will it sound alright? or should I have it firing at my seat? what about firing down?

The calculations for the flattest respone is .92.

However, the Qtc for a .66 box is almost identical to the .92 belive it or not.

I have mine in a .67 box and think it works well. Have a little faith in the Polk engineers. ;)

I would just make a brace for inside the box and it should take up the .10 you need to take away. Bracing is good anyways. It could even make the box hit a little be hard.
