Has anyone used the Tartan HDMI cables from Blue Jeans Cable? I only need a 6 foot cable, and they actually indicate that their test show no need to get the premium stuff when the run is under 10ft.
I am not going to run in wall, so is the 28 awg, non CL2 still good to go. $4.25 is it too good to be true?
I use BJC for my HDMI and HDMI to DVI cables in my mainroom and bedroom. I'm not sure if they are the Tartar cables you're referencing, I just got the cheapest ones at the time were $18 - $20 or so for 4 ft. They work great. Very thick and connect well.
I don't think you could go wrong with the $4.25 cable. It's sure to work just fine.
If that is the price they give then it is true. They are a great company in my area that I have bought product from before. They only sell quality.
On a flier, I sent an email with the question to Blue Jeans Cable too. Their response: for what I need buy the 28 awg Tartan (about $4 for a 6 footer). They said based on their tests for a run this short, this cable would perform as well as their more expensive stuff.
I was gald to get the answer back, also very impressed that they did not try to pressure the more expensive stuff for my really short runs.
Tiger, this is possibly a reaction by Blue Jeans to the fact that consumers have learned from companies such as MonoPrice, Triangle, etc. that excellent cabling is available at quite low cost and there's no good reason to spend more. Blue Jeans is a highly reputable, informative, no BS outfit which stands out in a field polluted by rip-off artists, but some of their prices have been somewhat higher than the competition.
The 28ga HDMI cable should be fine for runs up to 15' or so, while the 24ga cable, which still carries a very reasonable price, should be considered for runs longer than that.
Glad to hear the quality of these cheap cables are on par or better than the more expensive ones.
I too was shocked to see the prices for HDMI cable at bluejeans. I need two 3 foot hdmi's, and was very very happy with the quoted prices.
I have used them before for their speaker and subwoofer cable (excellent value and quality) so bluejeans was naturally the first place I went when looking for more HDMI cables. Glad too see a thread here on clubpolk about it. It put my mind at ease.
wow, thanks for informing me of this company. I guess being new to the audio thing I just assumed expensive cables=good cables and inexpensive ones were probably not worth buying. I was searching through audioquest's price sheet one day and noticed a speaker cable that from my calculations was about $900/ft. Are you telling me that Blue Jeans best speaker cable at .89/ft could be comparable to the audioquest at $900/ft? Does any independent company do comparisions of cables so that the consumer can decide if spending an extra couple hundred dollars a foot is worth it in their setup?

Anyway, comparing a $900 cable to a $0.89 cable is like comparing a potato to a watermelon. The materials used to build the cable are different(silver vs. copper, insulation jackets, dbs packs, terminations, etc.) High end gear has high end demands and often times a cheap cable just won't able to perform the task.
When comparing cables the only thing you should be using to make decision is your own ears since you are the one doing the listening. Just because 1 company says X cable is better, you might prefer Y cable.

Hartman....where are you buying the 49 dollar cable from? If it is from a retail store, then buy it, and but the bluejeans one, and let us know if you hear a difference. If you don't, then return the 49 dollar cable.
Cables matter.
Some inexpensive stuff is garbage...some isn't.
Some expensive stuff is garbage...some isn't.
Some expensive cables are worth it...some aren't.
Some cheap cables may be better than their cost...some may not be worth hooking up...even for pennies.
Regardless of what anyone says...the results are subjective to the individual...and that is all that really matters.

Audioquest by far. I was so impressed I went ahead and bought two more to replace the monoprice hdmi cables in my rig.
The improvement carries over to audio as well. Better lower level detail, expanded soundstage, and much better bass
