Hello,
I have Polk Monitor 50 series (2 of them).
1 center channel CS1
and 1 PSW 10 subwoofer.
I am planning to buy a receiver now.
What should be the ideal output watts/channel for my receiver?
Also, i wud appreciate if you guys could recommend a receiver that supports Polk Speakers.

There's plenty of recommendations we can give you...once we know how much you have to spend. Without a budget in mind, it's pointless to offer any advice.
whts more important to me is the output power of the receiver, so tht the polk can perform to its maximum capacity. i dont want the receiver to be a bottleneck.
still my budget is between 200-350.
I strongly recommend Onkyo TX-SR605 (90 wpc) for about $450. It has all the up-to-date connectibilities. If this is out of your price range, then I recommend Onkyo TX-SR575 (80 wpc) for $300 from CircuitCity. Good luck! :)
soren316 - I also have the Monitor 50 fronts and CS1 center (Monitor 30 surrounds/rears and a BIC H-100 sub) being driven by an Onkyo TX-SR503 (<$200). Sounds great and gets as loud as I want it to get. I believe that one of the benefits of the Monitor series is that you don't need a huge amp to drive them.
If you're interested in the latest Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus technologies, you will need to go to something like the Onkyo TX-SR605, which is <$400 (a refurb on shoponkyo.com should be available for $349 or less with free shipping). If not, there are other 5.1/7.1 Onkyo receivers available for <$200. Of course, there are other brands like HK that are also recommended, although I have no experience with them.
Others here could tell you what the effect would be by stepping up to a bigger receiver like the TX-SR705 or TX-SR805. Although out of your stated price range, it would be educational, and I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts as well as to the impact of a bigger amp on the M50s and CS1.

IF you live near a Tweeter(east coast), they have a bunch of deals on older stock.

Also, in order to notice a difference with more powerful receivers, they have to have double the rated power. For example, you would notice a difference of 3 db in sound loudness, if you step up to 100 wpc receiver if your current receiver is rated at 50 wpc (to 180 wpc, from 90 wpc, etc). :)
Any receiver will drive your speakers. Just pick one that has all the bells & whistles that you want it to have, & try to make sure it has preamp outputs for future upgrades. These cost more money up front but won't when it comes to upgrading to more power in the future.

Initially had an Onkyo but sent it back because the thing was actually a space heater disguised as a receiver. We have a Denon AVR3808ci now and love it.
