New Car Sedan

Well most of us know that things in life can effect what we do or buy. My plan was to sell my civic coupe and buy a 370z. Anyway with other things being though of like passenger room and MPG I am thinking of getting a sedan. Now I am not much of a sedan guy do not care for them but with the look into the future you new know when a 4 door is going to be needed.. I also want to try to stay away from honda. Not that I do not love them just think it is time to try something else.

Anyway I have been looking at the Toyota Camry and the Nissan Maxima. has anyone had any experience with them? Also one to other options. I might be buying used but more than likely going to buy new.

Another option is to keep the civic I have but it would only be for about another year.

Before anyone asks no I am not expecting a baby, nor getting married.

My dad is on his 2nd Camry and it just wont die. it has over 250K kms on it he treats it like a beat up pickup. It's only showing its age a bit in the styling of the car and the body is looking a bit old. It's at least 10yrs I know it's more but not sure exactly.

What's your monthly income like?

Honestly dude, knowing something about how old you are, and how you make your money, and your current living situation, i'd either keep the Civic, or buy a cheap but decent used car that you can save up and pay cash for.

Out of the 3 cars i own right now, $900 is the highest purchase price i paid for any of them, and yes, i do all my own repairs and service, but you can get a perfectly reliable car for $2k or under, and not have the payment. The cost to own will be MUCH cheaper.

A new Camry or Maxima isn't going to be cheap.

If you REALLY need a 4-door sedan, then go ahead and look at used Camrys, Proteges, Maximas, Accords etc. You should be able to get good used examples for under $3k that will need minimal service down the road.

Buying a new car is one of the worst "investments" you can make, and unless you're well off enough to accept the fact that you'll lose a crapton of money when you go to sell it years down the road, it shouldn't enter your mind. (yes, i realize that we don't all buy cars as investments) Without steady fulltime employment, i wouldn't even be considering a new car.

Yes, I have experience with a 2000 Nissan Maxima. It is my daily driver.

IMO, get a Chevy or a Ford. Parts are much cheaper and the newer models are pretty reliable. Nissan's are nice when they run right, but when they don't good luck with the repairs. For example electrical problems which I've had (big $$) to fix the ignition coils, starter, and alternator.

Again, just my opinion. YMMV.

Not just a new car, but a $30-40,000 car not to mention the interest rate you are probably going to be paying. Good luck with that one.

If you're that concerned about wanting a sedan, and are considering the Maxima, maybe look at the Altima as well.. similar car design and it has decent mpg and power at the same time..and is a lot cheaper if you get the 6 cyl engine its around 245 hp also you can find them for decent prices used.. but if I'm not mistaken you're just a college kid.. If you want a coupe, get a coupe you have plenty of time before you need a sedan and by the time you have kids, you'll likely be ready for a new car anyway... That being said, if you have a ton of CC debt.. stay in your little civic and pay that off first.. You've gotten a lot of new gear lately too based on your threads... maybe you should chill out on the spending pay down your debt and then think about a new car.

Why would it be cheaper if you get the 6cyl engine? The maxima only offers a 6 cyl, and the altima has a 2.5L I4...Which would be cheaper not more.

On another note, I have a 2009 Cadillac CTS FE3 and love it. It's got 2700miles on it and so far it drives great. Car of the yeaer 2008. High price however, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone wanting to *SAVE* money. Ironically I bought it to save money over my 2006 Cadillac STS...and I do. Financed it 0% for 72mo.

Bought the GF a 2006 Infiniti G35 for 13,800 2 weeks after, and I looove the car. Always wanted one, and Infiniti has the best service out there. Parts are expensive however, but I've have very few failures on Nissan products. The new altima with the CVT however has had problems with the transmission blowinig up at or around 30k miles. Beware of that transmission.

Before the 2 cadillacs I had an Infiniti I30t (Maxima) and it lasted 80k miles with only 1 major rework. Total cost of repair for 7 years was maybe 1200. Drove great and looked great.

I think he was more offering the Altima as a cheaper alternative to get V6 power.

Shoot if you're going to get an altima, just get the I4. It's spunky enough to get you on the highway (it's still slow overall though), will save you money in purchasing it, and in gas. The VQ35DE is a very thirsty engine as you'd know from the 350z/G35. It gobbles gas whenever it can, but at least it's spunky.

I think BAF needs to live a little and get a cheap Fox Body Mustang or something he can mess around with and pick up chicks. It's too early to start worrying about practical 4 door boring sedans.

Hell, i'm a bit farther down the road than you are buddy, and i've got 3 two-door vehicles, and none of them stock, by any stretch of the imagination.

What could you possibly need a sedan for right now?

If my kid was living at home and was toying with buying a $30K ride....and has issues with credit cards??

Sedans are cheaper to insure...(for the most part)

My first car @ 17? 1992 cadillac sedan deville long body. 5500lb of steel cage lol.

I didn't realize he was so young. If you're young and at home, don't buy a new car at all. It's not that you don't deserve it, it's that a) you don't need it and b) when you move out you don't want to be saddled with a car payment. Trust me on that one. I bought my full loaded 2006 STS when I lived at home ($59,975 sticker) and I could afford it because I was making big bucks with no bills.... My mistake. After buying a house and having bills it was a waste of money. The thrill of having it did not even come close to giving up that much money a month. At your age... get a car for point A to point b.

Keep the Civic bro, it'll last you forever if you treat it right. I wish I would have kept my old paid off truck instead of buying that brand new F150 when I was 18. Insurance costs aren't that big of a deal when you don't owe money on the car and can get away with state minimum coverage without a monthly car payment. ;) :p

They rate it on type of car as well. 4 door cars are generally safer, and driven safer statistically. If you're young the delta is much larger 4 door to 2 door.

Yeah... insurance is cheap out here, luckily. I think we pay a total of maybe $90 for three cars?

LOL. 25 has it's advantages.

My policy for 6 months is $670 with 06 G35, 09 CTS on it full coverage with gap and every option on the policy. Thats my gf and i (we're both 27). 90 is pretty good.

I wish i could get away with 40 a month.

Pfft! I carry full coverage on my truck because anything less, the insurance company hangs me out to dry if I get sued over an accident. My truck is 9 years old. I have a clean driving record and my insurance is still $2100 a year.
