Build your own?
Anyone have any suggestions for some good books on how to design an amplifier? I have a craving to see if I can build something better than my marantz 8200. (Just the amp section) I have no hardware design experience, but I do have a EE degree so I know the basics (or I did when I graduated 3 years ago). I have access to all the test equipment I'd need at work and also access to hardware engineers to help me out.
I have decided I want to get into the home audio/video business someday. What a better way then to fry some speakers while trying out my first amp!
Anyway, suggestions on books or sites would be helpful.
Has anyone here built an amp before?

I don't know any particular books or sites but you can go to yahoo.com and type DIY amplifier or amplifier schematics. I tried this once and got a lot of hits. SS and tubes were all over the place and I don't think they're too difficult to build once you've got all the components. There is a company selling a DIY tube pre-amp which got some rave reviews. I believe it is called "Foreplay pre-amp" or something like that. You may want to check it out as well because you get all the parts shipped to you and it costs just a little over $100.

I have a book that covers this subject I think that might help. It is called the audiophile's project sourcebook. Try amazon.com you can probably get a good price on a used copy. It's kind of old but it gives the basics with schematics and diagrams. Hope that helps.

I have a few links I think I can post later on tonight when I get home. I have found some websites with DIY MOSFET amp designs.
