When the ohms get smaller, the amp runs hotter. Some amps can't handle 1 ohm and if you try to run them 1 ohm, you will most likely destroy the amp. Its the same in home audio, you just don't see it as often. The speakers determine the impedance the amp runs, and for more on that you can scope out Crutchfield. Lots of good info there in their help section.
