I would chime in that sometimes even the same brand and model of speakers do not sound identical independent of one another. I actually have two sets of Polk RM towers using the same type of speaker...

I have been pleased with my Emotiva MMC-1 pre-pro which I have owned just short of 12 months. After three amp failures, I'd be skeptical too.

Emos and Adcom are both good products. My GFA-555 has been in service over 20 years and still sounds great.

That HTR5890 was a good performer - I had a HTR 5790 myself. It played competently in stereo, as well as multi-channel. Worked well as a pre-amp too.

Do you need an amp, or a receiver. Looks like you have some of each. At $100, your choices are very limited.

Here's a thought. Stick with your Adcom GFA-7500, and consider adding a strong 2-channel power amp - Emotiva, and Adcom both make good quality ones. I would look at the XPA-2 from Emotiva, or maybe...
