There's a perpetual auction on eBay for two pair of Ohm F speakers stacked that way. Upper speakers upside-down.
...
Somewhat true for early SDA speakers, not so much for the later units. The only thing he's missing is the SDA effect; all the drivers work with a stereo signal.
An RCA interconnect cable will...
F1nut is exactly correct. The Aragon 8008 is "dual mono"; but with 20 ohms resistance between the negative terminals. My 1Bs sounded terrible until I put a jumper wire between the negative...
Agreed about the "annoying" part, especially if the speaker sounds decent at lower volume.
I don't know where you get the 1K figure. Seems WAY high.
I bought my 1Bs in '86 or '87. ...
Yes, it's damaged, and Yes, you should not have to accept damaged items due to poor packaging or rough handling.
That said...there's no electrolyte to leak out. Install the thing, and listen in...
Decimal error? Between .2 and .3 ohms, new, .5 ohms after the contacts burn?
I thought Polk did end up tripping the polyswitches at least once because they were unreliable in terms of amperage...
The back of my Carver C9 "Sonic Holography" processor has a decal warning the user that they have a license to use the device to play music through, but they do NOT have a license to RECORD with the...
Remove polyswitch, measure it with an ohmmeter, see what it's resistance REALLY is. Order resistor in the same value.
(Better still would be to measure a NEW polyswitch, as they burn up in use. ...
I wouldn't say that.
Remember the old Alka-Seltzer TV commercial from many years ago? "Try it...you'll like it!"
Doesn't taste (or sound) like worms to those of us who have DONE the upgrade to...
Does anyone have accurate specs for the drivers involved? Far as I know, the driver specs (the ones actually needed for accurate frequency-response interpolation) are not available from Polk.
...
That is correct. There have been several threads discussing exactly that change to the crossover. The "best" is hundreds of posts long, and the first half is mostly conjecture, assumptions, and...
And "continuity" does not have to mean "low resistance".
No. The caps are labeled "22 16V".
Took another look, there's a pair just like them on the main circuit board, and the dbx factory schematic calls them "22uF TANT", so I have my answer on those. ...
Wasn't there a member of this forum warning us about incorrect binding-post wiring on SDA SRS speakers? I don't remember the details, but he reversed the speaker cable polarity, and heard the SDA...
I have a dbx 118 with a defective Root-Mean-Square Detector daughter-board. The unit works perfectly when I snap in the RMS Detector board from a second 118. Therefore the problem is localized to...
Pull four screws on each speaker, pop the terminal cups out. The post that's connected to a white wire is the negative.
5.6 is fine. Not perfect, but close enough. The general consensus is that if you're within 5% of the spec value, it's OK.
5.8 * 95% = 5.51
Therefore 5.6 is adequate.
Crossover mods were the second-most-important (second-most-positive) upgrade I did to my 1Bs. This actually beat replacing a dead tweeter.
I'll say it again: Upgrading the caps and resistors on...
How much?
Speakers have the highest distortion/coloration of any component in the audio chain.
Reducing (or even merely changing) the distortion spectrum with different speakers (or different positioning of...
Axial is what I could find at Erse, and I had a bunch of other stuff I was ordering from them at the same time. Radial leads seem...unpopular...compared to axial.
Radial leads would have been...
Finally found my "After" photos of the equalizer re-cap.

Thousands of years ago, Crown Macro Reference amps were a high-end darling.

Photos of original circuitry, prior to replacement of electrolytic caps. I was wrong earlier, cost was $27.50, not $20.
