Yes you're right the chinese tube were very noise and brittle sounding I'd replaced them with Mullards but that did not have any difference.

I recently retubed my Cary Audio V12 with TungSol El34's, GoldLion El84 and NOS Jan-Sylvania 6922 and I'm happy with it over the stock Ruby El34's, Ei EL84 tubes.

That's what I was thinking. There are no frequency response charts for the speakers to compare with. The methodology was good but the results were subjective.
