I think quite a bit of the New Testament was written between 50 and 90 AD, not too long after the fact.

Sort of like how to a 5 yr old, a year passed seems like an eternity because that is 1/5th of the 5 yr old's life. But to a 48 yr old, a year slips by without hardly realizing it.
