Great price for a BB version - someone should grab this !
As long as it is in good working order for $200 it is a great buy. Enjoy it.
VPI Classic2. I think it will be the last table I ever own - although I am going to do a cartridge change soon......
I used to have a Marantz TT, it is a nice table and I quite enjoyed it, however I sold it and went with a VPI which in my view has much better build quality and is an upgrade in performance as well. ...
In that price range it is tough to beat an Adcom GFA-555 Mark II - You might also find a Mark Levinson built Proceed AMP 2 for that money as well. The Proceed AMP 2 is an amazing performer for the...
What is your comfort zone budget wise for an amp ?
When in doubt go with the heavier of the two.....
Unless I missed it, nobody has suggested and Adcom GFA 555 Mark II. Pretty bomb proof, work well with Polk, great power and good $$$.
I think the CA pre's were the best of that series from Nak. The ST-7 Tuner is getting to be a pretty good buy on the used market as well these days and will 'round out your Nak. system.
I used to own one. Easily one of the best pre's you will find for the $$$.
Ortofon Red. Widely considered one of the best $ 100 carts. you will find anywhere.
Sounds like a connection loading issue to me. Your best bet is to stick with the RCA's until you can find someone with Rotel exp. to made some adjustments for you.
If it is a truly balanced amplifier then there will likely be a 6dB difference in the signal level between the XLR and single ended (RCA) connection standards. Some manufacturers adjust the gain...
I have not personally heard or tried one but I have heard many great things about the Anthem 225 integrated. I have tried and enjoyed the Musical Fidelity KW 500 as well as the Roksan Kandy and...
The 105/2's were my least favorite of the Kef reference series in those days. Save your money and find a nice set of of 104/2's instead. The 104/2 is easily one of the best Kef's ever made. They...
I think the two best TT deals under $3K are the Marantz TT-15 and the VPI Classic. Both are simply great tables for the money.
If your looking for a good amp in the $ 600-700 range that can drive a 4ohm load the Nakamichi PA-7 is a nice performer and also Aragon had a dual transformer (I think it was the BB version with...
For me….
70’s Marantz and JBL > SAE and ESS
80’s – Carver and Polk > Denon and Polk>Nakamichi and Polk > Adcom and Polk
90’s- Pioneer Elite and Tannoy. Left 2 channel and went strictly HT...
In opinion there is no question that a speaker change is the single biggest change you can make to alter the sound of your system, excluding your speakers then I would submit the following in order

Blue Fox has given you some good advice. Follow it and you will be surprised at just how much you enjoy your Ipod and the quality of the sound.
It was never my favorite cart. either. I always thought it was over-rated.
My advice is to get a Denon DP 37F…..they look great in rosewood but most importantly they are fully automatic…..what is most important for your gal is that the turntable is easy to use….a fully auto...
Those were the days.....I recall them all......even blew up a few ESS woofer's in the day.
If you are looking for detail and transient response it is hard to go wrong with panels. ML’s, Maggies, ET’s all would fit the criteria.
