I'm ready to see you Hovland/Plinius combo...and hear your feedback. Those are two of the great ones from a decade or so ago.
I had the predecessor Denon 395 which has the same amp section as the 397 and thought the sound was very mid-fi. I don't imaginge the preamp section is much better than the amp section. I easily...
I had a 'class A' Pass Labs amp and like the sound much better than A/B amps I've owned. You should like what you hear from Plinius.
I've never heard much a difference and don't use them.
Unsuspended direct drive turntables will have more transmission of tapping picked up by a cartridge than suspended belt drive tables. A solid supporting base will help immensely.
I used to subscribe to Stereo Review in the early '70s. Who could forget Julian Hirsch.
Not to muddy the waters but I'm a bit curious about the Music Hall MMF-7.1. It is the same price as a Traveler with a few design advances like separated motor, carbon fiber arm, and dual layer...
I've read of two VPI Travelers sent with design issues, so I'm leery. I'm glad there customer service is good, but this expensive turntable should have had the r&d done first. The new replacement tt...
You may want to make sure you get the version with the longer needle piviots so this won't be a problem after your warrantee is up. At this price it is a shame that R&D is continuing after the...
This tread is an eye-opener:

Sounds like you have since sold it and moved on to another amp.
If yamaha has good synergy, why upset the balance. I find their avrs very neutral sounding. Buy used from a few years old, and you will have what you need.
Seems like these Denon PMA2000ivr have been around for a while. Are they still pretty good or should I consider an integrated by Cambridge Audio, Arcam, NAD, etc?
Ok, now it has been 1.5 years since you got you integrated amp. Does it meet you expectations or are you ready to upgrade?
Another great recommendation is Getz/Gilberto. Astrud Gilberto's smoky voice on "The Girl from Ipanema" is still captivating after almost 50 years, and it's a good recording too.
I second Patricia Barber, every one of her albums.
LPs on a TT relaxing w/ a glass of wine in the spare room.
FM first and CDs second for background music on our 2 channel HT system in the living/dining room.
Your asking for a comparison to a lot of equipment.
I had Jolida 302 and it is very good, but the Stingray is much better. For a 2 channel system where kids are involved SS will be more convenient...
I've not hear this, but I is what I think is better about her voice. I will look for it. Thanks
I second this choice.
It sounds like it is time to re-balance your system because of a new listening space and different power feed. You have some amazing gear so you may consider room and AC filter tweaks, then cabling....
My experience is different w/ my Audio Electronics (Cary) tube power amp. After 1/2 hour is sound pretty good, but after 1-3 hours it is all together a better and more refined sound. The tube preamp...
This is what Nelson says in DIY Audio about GFP-750:
"Just for the record, I licensed the circuit to Adcom (before the ownership change) but am not otherwise involved. I haven't seen inside the...
With higher gage cabling it sounds quieter for 2 reasons.
1.) You are having a more balance sound so the highs are seeming less forward. The psycho-acoustic effect is it that it doesn't sound as...
Try it! Generally with the multi-channel amps, a single PS supplies all channels, so there will be marginal benefits, more similar to bi-wiring. It would be beneficial if each channel had a seperate...
