Maybe it was what you were driving them with, because the Lsi sounds "warmer" and more "laid back" than the current Studios I have. I guess the best way I can describe it is the Studios have "punch"...

I suspect that they need to break in a little. I don't remember the Lsi15 needed a break in period, then again I didn't pay a lot of attention back then either since I watch more movies.

Don't laugh. but I picked up 6' HDMI cables (RCA) from Menards for around $10 and they work just fine for me. Otherwise, Monoprice or even Tigerdirect is your best bet.
