You're right about the centers but people virtually equate the Monitors and Tsis. I believe the Tsi series is brighter and perhaps cleaner? I've heard the CS20 pairs great with Monitor 70s though....

I agree to go with a 2 or 3 speaker configuration now with the $550 or so you have to spend (assuming you agree with Dobermann's recommendations). When the upgrade bug inevitably hits, you can put...
CS10 would probably be the timbre-matching speaker in your price range. It's about $100. The step-up CS20 is $200. Center channel is the most important for movies!
The Monitor and Tsi line are comparable, I've seen people on this forum prefer the sound of either the Tsi500 or Monitor 70s (and I'm sure you can find dozens of threads on the topic, it was the main...
To pick something that hasn't already been listed, I'll say Sleuth (1972). No fancy effects or anything, just superb story and acting.
My real choice would be 2001: ASO :)
There's a thread about it a few threads below this one. I think they took old stock, made fancy new cases for it, and resold them at a higher price.
J&R has the original Monitor 70s for $180 shipped, which I don't believe are acoustically different from the 'Series II' rebrand. Put saved money towards a decent sub or bribing the wife.
What's your price range? Two of the cheapest receivers with pre-outs right now I think are the Yamaha RX-V665 ($250-300) and Onkyo 707/708 ($400-650).
I agree with Keiko on using searches...
If your receiver has pre-outs you can hook your speakers up to amps to drive them with more power than the receiver can. Depending on what speakers you have, if your receiver doesn't give them...
A listing on Audiogon says retail is $3199. That's obviously not a bulletproof number, but the seller wouldn't have a reason to make it lower than you could find it, right? You might not have...
The S10 is an H10 with battery backup right? What's the main advantage of this? If some power event happened, wouldn't everything live on the H15 anyway?
There's actually an H15 for $200 shipped on Audiogon, I think I'll go with that. Thanks for the help guys.
If I saw myself staying anywhere for more than 6 months in the next few years, I'd certainly look into having an electrician rewire my place. Unfortunately, I'm only 21 and don't own my own place!

I think I'll keep combing Audiogon for both of these devices in my price range, but the XPA-5 seems fine for my needs.
Also, do I plug the amp into the power conditioner? I see a PS Audio P500...
Hey guys, new at everything related to audio so bare with me. I don't have high quality stuff, but am trying to reasonably future-proof my setup so if I do upgrade I won't need to upgrade every...
Input from a new 707 owner (just got it from Amazon): It runs HOT!!! It's the first 'real' receiver I've owned (upgrading from a low end Onkyo which I can't recall the model of). I don't know how...
I'm sure people will come in here and tell you to consider Monitor 70s instead of Tsi500s. They're supposed to be comparable but cost half as much ($200 on J&R with free shipping). You can put...
Amp, power conditioner, seating, media storage... Believe me a lot of things will be upgraded/added before I consider upgrading my speakers! My 707 has inputs for front wides and front highs, so...
I'm nowhere near pulling a purchase on these since I just got my HTS set up, I'm just sort of wondering for the future and like hearing opinions! I've got Tsi500s and a CS20 up front. If you were...
I've seen that the Tsi500s and Monitor 70s are comparable to the point of it being subjective. I'm considering getting two of each and using whichever I like more for the front stage. That might be...
SR707s just dropped to $425 on Amazon (were $500 this morning). It's my lucky day!
In that case I think I'll just keep my current sub and upgrade to something better when I move in December. Thanks!
Having a low budget, this stuff seemed relatively no brainer and well-liked by the searches I've done on the forum, but I thought I'd ask you experts anyway. Anything about this you would...
