For now, I am satisfied with the setup for my H.T. So I think it would be best to try and improve the 2 channel sound for music. I don't think I would be better off...
I currently have a Denon AVR-1706 with no preouts. It only pushes out 75 w per channel. I find it good enough for my HT needs but it lacks that extra punch for music.

Does the power light come on? sometimes the power cord becomes disconnected on the back of the sub even when it appears connected. Just try to push it in a bit.

One option would be to use channel A and channel B if you have this option with your avr.
Hook up your mains via channel A and your sub via channel B (the polk way) and also with LFE....

I have a similar problem exept my sub is in the basement sitting on carpeted cement floor. It sounds ok but I have a feeling that the cement is muffling the sound. What do you mean by brass cones? ...
