I was never big on pro-ject tables except for their high enders, this time they may have hit a home run.

Damn Joe. A bit pricey.
My money tree in the backyard hasn't bloomed this year.
I like the 35k Pass labs monblocks they have, and my birthday is around the corner Joe.

That does look great. I agree, alot of $$ for me too. I'd have to wait it out for a 50% off sale and then sneek it past my better half.;):D
Most people just listen to music and watch movies . I am glad to be a part of a select group that tries to take our auditory and visual senses to a higher level: we EXPERIENCE them.... GOT SDA?...GOT SUNFIRE? ...GOT Maggies?
A table with a 12" arm for under $5000....amazing. The other specs are great too. I love my project but if I had the coin I'd drop it for that table in heartbeat. NICE!!!!

I'm an ardent VPI fan, however, if I had the coin I would give it shot in a heartbeat. I particularly like the way they've developed their composite platter. It brings the best of three worlds. Metal alloy with Sorbothane and that all important vinyl/delrin mix for the top of the platter where the record has a perfect mechanical impedance match and the record can be coupled directly to it without a mat. I'm not crazy about the "clamp weight" as weights are useless in my book unless they are used in conjuction with an outer ring clamp. The 12" carbon fiber tonearm is worth its weight in gold plus the mass loaded plinth with magnetic suspension provides superior isolation and airborne vibration control.
This baby is cheap if compared to other tables of the same design and materials.
For that kind of coin, wouldn't it be be better to go with VPI table?

Wow, just $1 short of $5K is still not considered a "high-ender"?
I'm still using the Thorens TD-160 I bought on sale new for $124 about 35 years ago.
I must be a cheapskate.
OK,
Just send me all the "cheap-ass" sub $5k components that you don't want anymore.
Indeed, as I said I am a huge fan of VPI tables and always recommend them and you could get a really good one at half the price of the new pro-ject table and as Russ said a spectacular Nottingham deck can be had for the same.
However, I liked what I read about the design and materials and would love to get my ears on one.
I'd like to hear that myself.....that said though, agreed....that kind of coin I KNOW buys some serious sound in VPI-land.

I ALWAYS use an ass-gasket. Never hover because of splash down and back splatter. I also float landing pad made from TP for a soft landing to avoid the above. One can never be too cautious when dealing with the general public. - RonP
No, the TD-160 is stock, mostly because it was retired for a few decades. I brought it back into service recently and I am really liking vinyl.
Don't get me wrong, I sure don't begrudge folks who have invested in, and enjoy, much more expensive equipment, it pushes the state of the art, and those improvements filter down to less expensive equipment. That kind of upgrading also puts great used equipment on the market. More power to you.
Thanks.
I've seen some serious and inexpensive upgrades and mods over the years offered for your 160 and I think with a bit of cash you could really get that gem sending you to vinyl heaven.
In fact Art Dudley has done alot of columns on the Linn & Thorens upgrades over the years and although I haven't heard them HE was impressed with the SQ improvements and that is good enough for me cause I think Art is a real vinyl guru like Fremer.
