Default Roger Waters does The Wall

Roger Waters will be in town here this fall doing The Wall in its entirety. I am going to go see it, no matter what. I am just wondering what you guys think of his performances alone. I know he did Dark Side a few years back but, never got to go.
    Thanks.

I plan on going to the wall tour as well. Either way I am just happy that I will be able to see it. Never thought I would have a chance.

There's already a thread going about this...

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99943

I'll be at one or both of the Chicago shows. Wouldn't miss them for the world!!

I didn't see it, but the consensus seems to be that this DSOTM tour was excellently performed.

Oh man! I saw him back in the day in Gund Arena doing the DSOTM! It was the best concert experience ever! The musicians outdid the albums!

By "back in the day", do you mean the tour from a few years ago?

I would think it so. I believe Waters only toured DSotM in 2007 and 2008, though Solid can correct me if I'm wrong. He was once pretty pissed off at Dave & company for using the Pink Floyd name without him (after he himself left the band in 83) in '87/'88 and '94 to draw huge audiences on the road, kind of dismissing them as a Pink Floyd cover band without himself. But after the passage of time, Waters said screw it and adopted the subtitle for his '07-'08 tour, "Roger Waters: the genius behind Pink Floyd," since he couldn't use the name officially. I guess he decided, "hey what the heck, why not make a buck if my old mates did it" Only problem is that I heard he lyp-synched his way through those DSotM tours...or at least the high registers.

But as Solid noted, Waters had quite the backing band including Snowy White of Thin Lizzy (who also played on the Animals and Wall tours in '77 and '80 respectively), Andy Fairweather Low and David Kilminister all on guitar (Given where Gilmour stands in my book, I have to kind of joke that Gilmour was/is so good that Waters had to find three guitarists to replace him...he, he). Both White and Kilminster have committed to the 2010 Wall tour.

Ummm . . . it was like ten years ago, I think. I was still in highschool at the time and only recently got my license to drive us all to the concert.

    Ahhh here is some evidence:

    http://pinkfloydhyperbase.dk/tours/rw_flesh.htm

It was the "In the Flesh" tour, I guess.

See Gund Arena, July 27, 1999! Wooh hooh. Good times.

Agreed completely. To me, David Gilmour was the heart and soul of Pink Floyd. My favorite Floyd is when Glimour/Wright were in primary creative control. Don't get me wrong though...Roger Waters is an incredible songwriter as well...he just has an overall darker...more demented vibe to him...where as the Gilmour/Wright based Floyd is psychedelia at it's best.

Take the Live in Gdansk shows from a few years ago. The absence of Roger Waters in those shows isn't even really noticeable for the most part. Guy Pratt fills that hole in very nicely. You look at Roger Waters solo stuff though...and the absence of David Gilmour is glaringly obvious. This is why Roger Waters needed three guitarists to replace him.;)

All just my $.02 of course.

I am going, if at all possible as well.
I would see either as either is worth the trip.
Gilmour, and his entourage I believe to be a better set up ( and preferred concert attend ), but if you think about the wall, David only wrote 2 songs on that cd collection, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell.
After the loss of the keyboard player, I would be surprised to see David in the states again.
David Gilmour's On an Island CD / DVD combo is worth it's weight in gold as a purchase though. He won an award for the title track, but I tell people, if you like the song Us and them, you will love the whole album.

How the heck can Waters do the Wall, without FRIGGIN GILMORE TO SING, what, 60%? of the songs?

I'll save my coin, self medicate, and catch the $6 PF laser show at the local community college planetarium.

I saw a 3D light show of DSotM at the IMAX in Waikiki back in mid 90's. Thought it was pretty good.

The Wall, 2 SACD is decent and worth checking out, Curt. I scored a pre-owned copy for under 10.00.

Here's a live performance of The Wall from 1980-81 that IMO is really worth owning.

Saw one a couple days ago with a starting bid of 19.99. I kinda had a hunch this wouldn't be available from jr when I placed the order. I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks, Jesse.

I saw him play at Darien Lake back around 2000, and it was just sick. He started with the first 7 songs from the first disc on the wall with a lot of quite large stage props and video screens blasting a somewhat tweaked version of elements from the wall. I think tix were something like $20 at the time. What a deal.

i've heard good reviews about his recent shows. i saw him in 87 when pf was slaying the countryside..i saw pf 5 times back then! the rw show? i was actually yawning a few times! he was a dk on stage. yelling at band members a few times. it went on too long.

apparently, he's got a better show and additude these days. i'll still pass, tho. need me some of that gilmour magic

    How much were tix, George?

Right now, I'm listening to the "Bowl de Luna" concert (PF playing the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 22, 1972), doing one of their pre- DSotM sets (sounds cooler than the album) and wishing Wright could come back from the dead, and Gilmour would patch things up for the show at the L.A. Forum this Thanksgiving.
