    Default Interesting Vintage Video player

I've never seen or heard anything like this before? This guy seemed to adopt it pretty quick when it came out based on how many movies he has.. has anyone seen one of these or even owned one?

That's neat, and no, never have seen or even heard of one.

The movies it plays were the very first version of laser-discs. The discs are not compatible with other players and were very expensive. They did not sell well as a result, and as the format improved, this gave way to the players that hung around until DVD's killed them.

CED discs; they actually use a stylus to play and they are, of course, analog. Pretty cool technology; the "pits" in the disc were read as alterations in capacitance (the "C" in CED; actually in their early days the discs were sometimes referred to as "CD", but another format sort of co-opted that moniker).

Briefly had a player and some discs I found at the dump but never actually tried it/them.

see page 2 of for a wee bit o' info.
    all the best,

I have a couple of those video-discs actually. I found them in the attic at one of my old apartments.

I've never watched any of them though.

If you take them out of the case and look at them...they're pretty crazy looking. Like a Psychedelic LP or something...they're all multi-colored and stuff. Maybe I should put one on my TT and see what happens.:p

That'd be cool to pick up for collector value...but I'm gonna guess they haven't really stood the test of time.
