Modifying the Monitor series??

Awile back, I opened up my Monitor 40s to see what was rattling around on the inside. After removing one of the drivers, I noticed there was not a lot of insulation inside. Just on the sides. Just bare wood on the top, bottom and back. What would be the proper way to to modify them? As far as adding "stuffing". Will I notice a differance?

A lot of people here are using dynamat(or a similar product) on the drivers baskets. Then using rope caulking for the gaskets. I'm going a step further(when I get the time). Using liquid nail around all the cabinet seams that I can possibly get to. Letting that set up, then applying the same dynamat again to all the cabinet I can get to. Afterward I'm going to add some poly fill. This should deaden up the cabinet and cancel ANY resonance that is going on. I also suggest upgrading the cross-overs.

No Rez or Blackhole 5 are your best bets for internal damping. Running a bead of liquid nails won't hurt anything, but probably won't help much either. Be carefull just 'stuffing' a box with fill, the amount most manufacturers use in a speaker is part of the design, especially in a ported loudspeaker. You change the fill, you alter the tune.

I'm thinking I won't need much if any. There is NO DAMPENING material at all around the lower part of the cabinet where my PR's are at. I'll try it with dynamat first. Then experiment with the fill. Spikes are also on order to couple them to the floor better.
