    Default Siversun Pickups

Are there any Silversun Pickups fans out there? I'm in my 50's and this is an Indie band, but I think they are terrific. Check out their acoustic version of "Panic Switch" on Youtube and you will be impressed. As a benefit the bass player is a cutie.

Long time fan. Their Pikul EP and both albums are solid all the way through. Of course, some people will be turned off by Brian Aubert's voice, but I tend to be drawn to more odd vocal stylings, so I consider it a bonus.

    Good stuff.

For what its worth, "Swoon"'s album's polarity is inverted.

I agree. Panic switch is a great song. My coworker thinks it a woman who's singing.

I know theyre probably considered indie, but they have a classic Smashing Pumpkins vibe to them (back before they got into the electronic style). I haven't purchased their albums yet, but they have been on the list for a while.

Their albums are great and I haven't seen that specific acoustic performance on youtube i don't think. But I saw their perform 5 or 6 songs on a now-defunct HD channel that played random music performances.

I was blown away by how cool their stuff sounded when performed acoustically (or what passes for acoustic now-a-days, their bassist have power i'm fairly sure )

But i'm fairly big fan of their music and would love to see them live in person, but have not had the pleasure yet.

I'm going to quarrel with that statement. Nearly every music reviewer compares them to the Smashing Pumpkins for ZERO (no pun intended) reason other than Brian Aubert has an odd vocal styling that could somewhat be compared to how Bill Corgan sings only in that they both go from a quiet whisper to screaming in several songs. Musically the two outfits sound completely different.

I think it's just easy for people to say when in truth they're two totally different bands. They don't even list them as an influence.

When people compare bands it always seems that they are actually trying to compare vocal tone or vocal tendencies or who one lead singer "sounds like". I agree that most of the comparisons I hear between bands based on that criteria are inaccurate..

It gets really difficult to describe one band to someone without a large amount of musical knowledge or background (and really, even those with extensive musical knowledge and background can have trouble really describing music to themselves or others). So people tend to gravitate towards comparing based on vocal tone (because its easiest and most people can hear that similarity) versus comparing a bands propensity to use alternate time signatures, riff rock or power chords, or shifting sound dynamics...

I haven't listened to their music in a while so I can't go into detail, but I do remember basing that judgment off the actual music. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't be an influence, as the first song I heard from them instantly brought up 90's SP. All this happened BEFORE he ever opened his mouth. I understand your argument, but you can't deny similarities between the two bands. Something like 1979 would fit right in on their first album.

Its OK though. I'll go back to my world of ignorance with everyone else and pretend I have something to pull my opinions from.
