Wondering why you would want to bypass the "electronic extras" in the first place? And really...once bypassed, exactly what do you intend to connect your speaker to?

Really this is a pretty fine sounding speaker, so maybe you have some issue(s) that need to be resolved with these.

because i can get the speakers cheap without a power supply and want to use them without having to buy one...ie through a amp with every day speaker wire outputs

Are you referring to the electronic board attached to the side of the frame on the speaker?

If yes, that board is the crossover for the two way speaker and not a power supply. This board is necessary and the speakers will not function properly without it.

Okay, I understand what he's referring to now:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/p...n/ip/lc80i-ip/
These are IP speakers, and they're meant to be connected to an ethernet or a line level audio connection. Some funky little beasts they are too.

What I can tell by looking at the product page is that they do not have the standard passive crossover that the normal LC80i's have. This means, to use an external amplifier you would need to use an active crossover and bi-amp them. Unless you already have a system capable of doing so, you're probably better off purchasing an appropriate power supply for the speakers or looking at a different model speaker altogether.

Honestly, in my own humble opinion, if you don't intend to use them in the fashion they were designed, I wouldn't bother. I'd look for a different model that would better suit your needs.
