Default Question for Those with 2 Subs and Y Splitter Connector

Do both your subs stay on at all times with a Y splitter cable from one sub out???
I'm asking because I've got issues with my AVR, which I'm going to replace, and am wondering if it is worth buying a new one with 2 Sub outs or just one Sub out and a Y splitter (which I already have). Note that I've already tested different cables and subs and the problem is the AVR.

If people seem to run the Y splitter with no problems, that would be the easiest way to go.
    Thanks for any input!

I bought one at Amazon - a Monster brand one for about $12. It works fine.

Even receivers with dual sub outs are not doing anything different than splitting the sub to two jacks. No real difference in you doing it outside the receiver...

Go to Monoprice.com, extremely high quality cables for under $10. As Monster states on their website Amazon is not an authorized seller of their products and many of the cables sold by amazon retailers are not legit, and all of them are not covered by the Monster warranty. That and the fact that Monster is overpriced hype sold in a fancy package. :D

When I was running dual mP1k subs, I used an Audioquest y-splitter with my Onkyo TX-SR805. Never a problem waking the subs from standby mode when the system turned on, and never a problem having them go back into standby mode after the system was turned off.

Using a y cable from an Onkyo TX-SR806 - split to a Velodyne DPS12 and an Infinity PS210 - ditto what mak99 says about the sleep mode. Both wake up when sent signal. I use a y cable on the other end into the dps12 - the ps210 has both line inputs fed through a monster sw200 sub surge protetecor. Where do you guys and gals have your subs in the room? Both of mine are now on either side of the couch in the back of the living room.

How about a splitter and sub EQ in one, with the option to add up to 3 subs? I introduce to you the Velodyne SMS-1. As mentioned Y splitter is fine until your ready for the additional toy.

+1 for the SMS-1, though I added it after "retiring" the dual microPros. GREAT sub EQ...for any sub. The EQ'd/non-EQ'd comparison is eye-opening.

This isn't quite true. There are some receivers like the upcoming Yamaha RX-V3067 that have two sub outputs that can be independently EQd, and assigned to Stereo L/R, Front/Rear, or Dual Mono functions.

The Stereo L/R setup is enticing, as there is plenty of music that has say, bass percussion on one channel and bass guitar/cello level bass on the other channel playing simultaneously. Having only one sub to reproduce both diminishes both. Having a sub that only has to deal with the music data coming from its specifically assigned channel means that it doesn't have to "mix" the two bass instruments, and should provide a cleaner, more defined sound.

Do note that I did not say localized sound. Just more defined. Even in a Stereo L/F configuration you shouldn't (ideally) be able to tell which channel is which, just that each instrument has its own sub playing it (assuming as above that the instruments on on opposing channels).

Actually the Y splitter is about the only cable I didn't buy at Monoprice. :) They didn't have the same cable there.

    Y Adapter

This may be a bit late but above is the link for the Y adapter that I purchased. It is a bit more than the <$1 adapter but I like the heavier gauge and better build.
