Saw this a few weeks ago and was super excited. I just have a hard time spending 20+ on movies when a week later they will most likely be 15.

    I'll pass.

Good film, for the first 20 minutes, then boredom sets in. Just not enough here for repeat viewings anymore. I've seen it enough. I'll will rent it once though just for the lossless audio track it will get.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

On this one I kind of have to agree with RonP.

I still love this movie, but after the first 20 minutes I can't help but think of "Band of Brothers" . That's not exactly fair comparing a movie to a mini-series, but Tom Hanks still gets a 2-Thumbs Up.

I found BoB to be better then SPR and Tom Hanks being the worst casting for SPR. Sure, he's a decent "Hollywood" actor but in his role they should have cast a nobody. Watching Hanks in SPR was too much of a distraction for me, he's just too popular, too typecast, too Hollywood, too bland of an actor. But, he's popular and that sells over quality.

Thanks to this thread, just pre-ordered! :D

BoB on BR is "pre-ordered" via a mention to my Wifey as a potential father's day gift. The entire
BoB series is not particularly cheap (not like buying a single disc).

IMHO each movie/series is different, but a valid interpretation of WWII in Europe in their own right.

It appears there is some sort of Band of Brothers Pacific Sampler new release. There used to be an older Band of Brothers blu-ray set that would go on sale sub 40 bucks at Amazon. I guess that's gone and they're now trying to cash in on the higher priced set. Too bad...

Incidentally, it looks like they're doing Spielberg's work right for the Blu-rays. Minority Report scored 5/5 on both audio and video over at blu-ray.com. If Saving Private Ryan is given the same treatment, then YAY!

Way to call-out a brother in the Polk fold. Now I'm gonna be stripped of that title. I was hoping to squeak by management.

You know, while I greatly enjoyed Band of Brothers and now the Pacific, I really hates saving provate ryan. I just find the whole premise stupid, that a group of men died (who all had mothers as well) to save a single person.

I know that many would find this heroic, but I find it only tragic, and a terrible use of judgment on the part of the officers that granted this mission blessing.

I think a big up has to go out to the directors like spielberg who where ahead of their time as far as PQ and AQ go.
