Default Ive got the HT system mapped out... or most of it

So in the next couple of months I am going to slowly pick up components to build me a HT system...

Here is what I have decided on as of now...

    Mains - Tyler Super Towers
Main subs - Tyler Custom 10"
Center - Def Tech CLR3000 (built in 10" sub)
Surrounds - Def Tech Powermonitor (any of them, anywhere from a 6.5" to 10" sub
LFE subwoofer - Hopefully a VMPS Larger, if not - itll be a SVS or Epik or something... just something solid real low hahaha
    Processor - Emotiva UMC-1
Main amplifiers - Odyssey Mono Extremes (HT Bypass on the Candela)
Center and surround amplifiers - Not really sure -- I was thinking Emotiva XPA-3
LFE sub amplifiers - Again, not really sure - maybe a Crown XTI series or something for the crossover functions...
    DVD player - PS3

    Any thoughts?

Why not a timbre matched center from Tyler?

Cost - 2,000 for the center (Super Center) - and 1,000+ for the surrounds ---

Besides the Def Tech stuff is stellar for HT and the midbass punch from having powered subwoofers in all speakers should be off the hook... lol - I love bass in movies... love it

The Def Tech tweeter should be bright enough to go with the Tylers without problem - they wont have quite the detail of course, but thats ok.

If I cant score a CLR3000 - Ill probably look around for a CS1000P from Polk -- but the CLR3000 goes pretty cheap and its a little smaller in the width department...

I think that system will blow up your house.

    Looks good to me.

FYI...there is a CS1000P for sale now on this forum which is kind of rare.

What are you going to use for bass management? Do all the subs have adjustable phase? And will they all be hooked up to the same breaker?

center, surround, lfe sub amp = own 20 amp circuit
each main amp/main sub has its own 20 amp circuit
the center sub, preamp, sources will be on its own 20 amp circuit
the surround subs will prolly be on a 15amp circuitr - but basically its own

Each speaker has all necessary adjustments - and will be ran in a tri-wireable config - not lfe

    Alright --

    More thinking...

Im thinking about just getting the Studiomonitor 450 from Definitive -- which is a single 6.5", 1" dome tweeter and a 10" PR - that should realistically be more than adequate... (not to mention cheaper)

    So... hmm

I have a bid on a CLR3000 right now -- if I get it, Ill pick up a Studiomonitor 450 pair in the next month or so

I have a line on a VMPS Larger... and after that all I will need is the processor and the amps!

    Sweet

And - no projector, just the TV

Isn't the PowerMonitor series better performing?

When I heard them a while back at Audio Breakthroughs (hi-fi store), the PowerMonitor series sounded better/more accurate than my 10B's, at least in the bass department.

The Studiomonitor 450 and the Powermonitor 900 should be the same speaker except for the subwoofer and the amplifier...

They both use the tweeter and midbass out of your BP10B -- but the Power Monitor 900 uses a 10" sub + amp where as the Studiomonitor 450 uses a 10" PR

    Both have identical enclosure construction....

So - really I have to decide if having full range surrounds is really worth it to me and really the Studiomonitor 450 wont be a slouch in the bass department, no Def Tech speakers really are.

Another processor though has been the Pioneer Elite SC stuff

Im indifferent to amplifiers honestly... Id like to keep it all in one unit since it will be located in the master bedroom closet - Im thinking at this point a 5 or 7 ch to also power inwalls and outdoor speakers throughout the house.... lots of thoughts

But if someone wants to make this a Emotiva trash thread - you can go kick rocks...

For starters I would get a used integra 9.8 for $150 more dollars and get a used anthem amp for the same money as an emotiva

Interesting suggestion - I will definitely look into it...

I may get a Pioneer Elite processor - aside from looks, they usually are pretty awesome and can be had at a decent price used...

Amps -- like I said Im indifferent... Ill scrounge the used market - but Outlaw and Emotiva both have attractive products for the price...

Now if I could find some Odyssey Audio amps - 5 channels for like 500 bucks Id be happy (ha, not going to happen)

I dont need Auto Cal - thats what SPL meters are for... and balanced outs? eh - no need... Im an RCA kind of guy - besides the center, surround, lfe out will be ran through the walls to a closet where the amp will be... lol

Again, thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that Integra

Suggestion: even if you are going to use your TV, consider looking into an Anchor Bay / DVDO iScan unit. These make a HUGE difference as I've seen them at trade shows, etc.

    http://www.anchorbaytech.com/products/systems/

Basically it's like an external DAC - except for video.

SPL meters cant take into account the millions of differences like time delay and reflections but its your money

Look on the gon for anthem amps ,they are high end low price amps for 700 bucks a 7ch . or hardcore sunfires go for 800

A used integra 9.8 will kick any receivers ass plus it will hold its price with good resale

Well, based on the demo's I've seen - yes an external scaler can make a difference. And it's not just sharpness... the major difference I saw was in the realism of the picture.

It basically allows you to have your video processing done external to the TV, similar to how you would use a DAC with a CDP.

Does not make a diff to justifiably pay more

Thats why I recommend the integra 9.8 because the newer models costing hundreds more just have more vid proccesing

my next purchase will be ghe 9.8 for raw audio and none of that noisy avr bull

I cannot hear a difference between HDMI audio and optical. Currently I use optical for the audio and HDMI for video for HT use.

I think this is very important. If cost of the Tyler center is an issue then I would consider downgrading the mains to allow for a timbre matched center.

    Example:
    Paradigm Studio 20 (or Studio 100 floor-standers) V.4 mains,
Paradigm studio CC-590 (or CC-690 if you have the space) V.4 center

While I agree timbre matching is important...

This system is 90% music, 10% HT...

If a center channel cost 2,000 dollars from Tyler... my budget is hurt pretty bad.

I can get a processor, center, surrounds, and a subwoofer - all for the price of a matching Tyler center...

So putting it into perspective, that makes no sense.

Besides the CLR3000 - while maybe not using Seas drivers is definitely no slouch - infact, I would put that center against any Polk center except maybe the CS1000p - and even then it will be a close race...

I will definitely look into those processors...

Im kind of doing this backwards though - Im getting the speakers, then the amps, then the processor... sooo by the time I get to the processor there could be something new in town...

Besides Rotel, Nad, B&K, Adcom - what are some other amps that are decent and can be found used on the cheap?
