Default MIT Terminator 2 or AVT S3

Just looking for opinions and discussion. I have an opportunity to buy a brand new pair or MIT AVt S3 8' speaker cables. I currently have have the older (smooth box) Terminator 2's. Many have commented the AVt's are a step up from the T2's.

What's the consensus here? My plan was to grab a pair of Shotgun's someday but they are just too expensive at this time. The AVt S3 are the entry level AVt as the S1 and S2 are supposed to be even better.

I'm not going to go through the hassle of selling my T2's if there really isn't a difference. I suppose I could get the AVt S3's and then compare the two and sell the one I like least.

I am getting tired of swapping tubes, cable and gear lately, one of these days I'd just like to be done for awhile and enjoy the superb system I've built......perhaps that will never happen in this hobby :p

Why not just save up and do it right?

That's a thought but frankly I'd rather move up the Pass line than the MIT line at this point. Don't get me wrong I think the MIT's are worth it. I just don't have it. To replace my IC's and speaker cables with Shotgun's would realistically be about $1.5K. That money added to the sale of the Aleph would go along way to a new Pass amp.

For me it's about the best area to compromise because I don't have unlimited funds. Do I really need to replace the Aleph.................HELL NO, but one can dream a little :p:D

Heya Brocko...I have a pair of AVt2 I'm running on my RTi6s with a Yammie RX-797. For my level of equipment, I've been real pleased with the performance.

Edit: Tired of tube rolling? You!? :D

Never mind, should have jumped on them this morning. Guy had 5 new pairs in the box listed for $110/pr. Now they are listed at $399/pr.

    Gotta love ebay shisters.

I agree, but for that model that's not really a good price. For less than $100 more I can buy a pair of used Shotgun S3's. I still have my Terminator II's. At $140 that was a helluva deal!!! At $399.............he can suck it! :D

Think I only paid 120.00 for mine last year from Greg. Scored several AVt2 ICs as well for my entire front end. He's nuts @ 399.00. Some poor dummy will end up buying them though.

Edit: Brock, might be worth a moment of your time to shoot Gavin a PM. I get emails from him all the time for clearance & B stock items. He might be able to set you up with something. I see a 10' pair of EXp2 at mitexpress right now for 98.50.

If you do notice a big difference between them let me know. I called MIT yesterday to get an idea and Steve stated they are very close to being the same cable and that if I (I have T2's for speaker cable as well, AVT3 IC's) would be looking to upgrade he would recommend the shotgun line or CVT which replaced the shotgun line. He stated audio nerd USA who is an authorized dealer does take MIT's on trade in if someone would be interested in getting the CVT's or Shotguns.

^^^ good to know. I thought I had read that as well.

I'm just going to hold out for some Shotgun speaker cables. I demo'd the CVT's (hybrids) in my rig and didn't think they were a good fit. But, I've changed up some things recently which would most likely make the CVT's a choice as well.

no problem. Steve asked me what I was running for gear ect and I told him. He was very nice and more than helpful and said that really the AVT and Terminator lines are similar that it probably wouldn't be "the best bang for my buck" to then go and get he AVT speaker cables to match my ICs. However now I will have to save or see about maybe getting a good deal on some shotguns haha.
