    Question Monitor 10 or A Or B???

I'm new to this forum. could somebody please tell me what the difference is between various versions of the model monitor 10's? I have a pair that has two different tweeters one tweeter has stamped on the back M10 and has a black face plate, the other has sl1000 on the back of it it with a silver faceplate. i bought these these on ebay. Can you tell which version of the 10 they are by the serial number? The numbers are 10A 113748 and 10A 113751.I called Polk And ordered what was supposed to be drop in replacements so that i would have matching tweeters ,they sent me rdo 194s so the invoice says but they don't fit the cutouts on the cabinets. Confused!!! Can someone help ? If Polk doesn't know the difference ,who doe's? Thanks for your help!!

Judging by the serial numbers, and your description of the tweeters...you've got 10A's. The black faced tweeter is the original one, and is the Peerless tweeter.

The RD0-194's are NOT a direct replacement for the Peerless tweets. The cutout size is different, and the high frequency signal path is different. The Peerless equipped models used an extra resistor in the tweeter circuit.

Your best bet would be to track down another original Peerless tweeter to replace the SL-1000. I believe there might be a few for sale in the FM here currently. If not, they're easy enough to find. Just post a WTB ad here, and I'm sure someone will have one for you.:)

The Peerless tweets are a fantastic sounding tweeter. IMO, there isn't even any need to replace them with the RD0-194's. I wouldn't say that the Peerless is better than the 194(or vice versa for that matter). They're very different sounding tweeters, and each has their good and bad qualities.

By the way, welcome to Club Polk!!:) Congrats on the new speakers. The vintage Monitors are some great sounding speakers. As far as musicality is concerned, they're very hard to beat in their price range IMO. Truly some great sounding speakers. What kind of gear are you going to be using to drive your 10A's?

Thanks so much omfortablycurt for sorting this out for me ,I first heard the monitor 10's back in 78 ,i even set up a system for a friend which sounded very good, I always liked the monitors very much because They always sounded similar to the Spendor BC-1 which was quite a feat.My system consist of custom built 300b and vintage jbl D130,L85 in a custom built back loaded horn (Very Large ) a promitheus audio TVC into a promitheus tube 6db gain stage. For the polks i have a Quicksilver Full Function preamp into a sonic frontiers sfs40 tube amp The monitors always sounded good with tube gear,I first got involved in audio in the mid 50's when there was only tube gear.so it always sound best to me. i do have one solid state amp an old jbl 401 circa 62-63 which i will try also. I'm not much of an audiophile more of a music lover who enjoys the sound of live music. Thanks again and enjoy the music!!

My monitor 10s have no fuses and peerless tweeters (no dimples on the front of them)

    S/Ns 177961 & 177959

I don't want to crack open the cabinets as i'm quite content with the way they sound now.

Wayne yours are late 10Bs (based on the 177,000 serial numbers)and would come with SL2000s Are you sure they are Peerless?? as someone would have had to put them in in place of the SL2000.
