    Question component cables 720 or 1080????

    hey guys, i need some help,again.....i have a sony 5-disc dvd player dvp-nc80v.....non hdmi....i have a sony avr str-de635.....i have a samsung 40"lcd 1080p ln5530...now for sound i have the dvd hooked up via 5.1channel ........to the avr .....for video i have the dvd hooked up via 15' component cable (av-outlet)straight to the tv.....is this 480....720....or 480i or1080i ....or 1080 p

    I am pretty sure component cable can only pass 1080i, but then your TV can convert it to 1080P. Hope that helps.

    component can pass 1080P but Xbox 360 is the only device I know of that will allow that.

    Most devices and AVRs will not pass 1080p over that cable. SOmething about it being analog and not reconizing video restricting content ability.

    so what the resolution be from a regular dvd

    A normal old scholl DVD player is 480i, and a progressive dvd player is 480p. An upscaling dvd player can do 720, 1080i or 1080p.
