    Default CHT-15 Setting in setup

I am looking for advice on my particular setup. I'm not quite content with how the bass sounds. Here is what I'm running:

    Onkyo TX-SR805
    Polk RTI150 fronts
    Polk CSI40 center
Polk FXI50 rear and surround rear
    Velodyne CHT-15

Maybe I'm not setting the speaker and crossover settings correctly on the receiver and sub. I have set the fronts and center to full band and the rears to 80 Hz. The sub crossover in the receiver is set at 80 Hz. Do these look right? Also, there is an option called double bass (LFE+FL and FR). Does anyone recommend turning this on? I'm really not sure how I should set the internal/external switch and crossovers on the Velodyne to get the best results.

You didn't mention what it was about the sound that you don't like.

I have the CHT 12, so I'm familiar with the amp used on your sub. Make sure if you are using the receiver's bass management, that you have the sub set to Direct, bypassing the sub's internal crossover. You don't really want to double up on those.

I suggest trying it both ways, see which sounds better to you. To use the sub's crossover, select a higher crossover point in the receiver. (say 250Hz)

No matter how you get there, that big 'ol 15 should only be playing back the really low stuff, as it appears your Polks will play decently low. Try crossing the sub around 50Hz, that should bring things around a bit.

Personally, I tried it both ways and settled on neither. lol I'm using an outboard parametric eq just for the sub, I was able to dial in very specifically on the peaks caused by the room, and tame them down.

Placement can be a big influence on the sound too. Time to get your read on.

    Oh, and welcome to CP!
