It was a great show, but I am not certain it was 24 Emmy nod's worth.

    Congrats to them nonetheless.

I enjoyed it too, but felt more of the connection with BoB.

I have yet to see it - BoB is a pretty tough act to follow!

Can't go along with it. I really was disappointed in the series. I think they could have done a much much better job. I didn't' get the same feelings I did with BoB or Private Ryan and other such intense war dramas.

I can't even bring myself to watch it agiain.

I don't think anybody is really going to argue that BoB was a better series. I know it's by the same people and all, but you really have to measure this series independent of BoB. I got caught up in the comparisons early on, but it just doesn't work.

Band of Brothers is quite possibly the best thing ever captured on moving picture film, so it's really not fair to compare really anything to it.

Taking the series on it's own, it's an excellent film and very diserving of any awards it wins. I'll be purchasing this when it comes out.

I sort of have the same feeling, but maybe it needs to be watched more than once to appreciate.

The issue I had was I found it hard to follow the characters since it jumped around a lot. Other than the Medal of Honor winner, I kept forgeting who was who, so the interest level would drop.

After it comes out on BR I will watch it again.

Couldn't agree more man.. it's easy to compare it to BoB.. just makes perfect sense that some will. .. i certainly did in the first couple of episodes. now though, I am able to watch it and let it stand on it's own, because it can and does.

I mean, did the Emmy voters really see something in the series that we're not catching? or are they being thrown so many nom's because of who directed and produced it? Maybe it really does deserve 24 noms? ;)

We'll see how many gold statues they walk away with. Certainly if they sweep up, then more people will be watching it for the first time, and the second, etc.

I had mixed feelings with regard to this series.I found that I really liked some of the episodes and some I didn't care for so much.As a whole it felt a little disjointed to me.

I really liked the opening of each segment, where the men who were actually there talked. You could see that nearly 65 years had passed and for these men, it was as though they were talking about yesterday. For me,it was as if they opened up a portal in time and took me there. This I'm sure was the intent of Mr. Spielburg. I think in some segments they took better advantage of this than in others.

All in all a great series IMHO

You got me wrong Bro. I wasn't comparing The Pacific to BoB or any of the other war dramas. What I'm saying is, I didn't get the feelings of hopelessness, depression, fear, anxiety, relief, the feeling that "you are there," heroics, the heartpounding adrenalin rush of being attacked, despair etc. that I did with others of the same ilk. That being said, I found it boring and uninvolving. I think they just touched the surface of what it was really like and think they could have done a better job.

    Just my humble opinion.

That, they did an excellent job with. I watch a lot WWII documentaries on the History & History International channels and they all starting with the old World At War series had the perspective of those that were involved in the struggles. I always find their 'still living' the struggle very mesmerizing and informative as well as sad because it still isn't over for them.

my only beef with The Pacific was the sex and love scenes.. didn't need it.. and some of those scenes were way to long.. :( basically, the story line came to halt every time they peeled away from the action. only the love scenes did i have a problem with, not the background or character set up story line.

Yep that was replete with suckyocity!!! Those spots and episodes could have been filled with more of what it was like on those islands where those boys were fighting a superman like foe whose desire to die in battle was their creed and to kill and torture marines and GIs was their delight.

    thanks Joe!

that's what I was trying to say.. cut out the boring love scenes and fill it with more about what else was happening in the battle field. I think that's why i liked parts 6 and 7 better than the rest.. no sex! :p

Yeah Al there is nothing worse than gratuitous sex scenes! UGH!!! What were they trying to convey? That the boys got laid and got their hearts broke too, well gee wiz Tom & Steve really!?! Cut me a break with that crap.
