opinions needed

I currently have a set a rti10 and they seemed to be underpowered. I would like to run a seperate amp, specs say they are 89 db and 20 to 300 watt, everything I have been reading up on say they should have between 250 and 400 watts what do you guys recommend as far as power and equipment brands.

I wouldn't worry about watts as much as quality of the amp. Some folks will tell you that you need 200 watts just to start. I'll put my 125 watt Marsh against most any of their 200 watt or better amps. Or you could go with a 30 watt tube amp that will blow it away. You just need to find a good quality amp and you'll be fine.

they are currently powered by a yamaha htr 5890 and they claim minimum rms is 120 watts. and they seem way under powered. Thanks daboys

All the amp you'd ever need. Provided that he's willing to sell to such a newbie. No offense intended, but selling to someone with a history on the forum is obviously preferred.

Some will say you need 200wpc, which is pretty good general advice IMO. But, there are 30w amps that will make those speakers sing. I also had an Adcom 545 which is about 125wpc and it did a decent job with my LSi 15's. Check out Rotel, Adcom, Parasound, Carver, Outlaw.

I wouldn't for loudspeaker use.

Agreed with the quality over quantity comments. Get a well built and engineered, decent quality amp and you should be fine. When I crank my stereo to levels which I consider plenty loud, I am only using around 5 watts. For average music listening you are likely using about 2-3 watts rms. Get good, quality watts; this, combined with high current (which most people forget about) is more important than gaudy watt numbers.

Check out some used NAD amps. They are very conservatively rated quality, high head room wpc spec'd.

for ht the xpa-5 is a good budget amp. I run the xpa-3 for music and ht and it does a good job
