History is full of people who ignored the survival instinct and gave their lives for others. While suvival may have been part of the equasion...it was not their first priority.

....by the way!!! We are talking about the NEXT generation of cars. Cars that will have builtin electronic gizmos that wouldn't allow collisions....or at least cut down on them. Some sort of sensor that slows or stops a car when too close. If you can think it...it can be made.

Unfortunately it seems to be used only on some commercial vehicules (IE: buses). I guess it would hurt the average Joe car market a little too much to be mass produced and standard on all cars

Relying on electronics solely is however tricky, car must still be built according to safety standards and control to the driver is still a must at all times. Just look at ABS technology, all good as long as the system works. There is always the possibility of electronic failure just like mechanical ;)

I will say this, the very last thing I take into consideration when buy a car is mpg. I don't care how good or bad it is, makes no difference to me. I want style, reliability, safety, handling and so much more over mpg.
