Welcome to Club Polk. You will be safe with the Onkyo SR503.
If you are looking to upgrade, I suggest moving up to an AVR with pre-amp outputs to allow you to use and external amp. The Monitor 70's will definitely sound better.
The Onkyo 608, the Pioneer 1019 or 1020 do not have pre-amp outputs, although the 1018 did.

So look at the Onlyo 700 series or higher or the Pioneer 1120 as a minimum.
Check out Accessories4less for good deals on Onkyos.
The HK AVR 254 or 354 are good choices to consider too.
Ckeck out the ebay Harman store for them.
Additionally, the Pioneer Elite SC does a great job powering the Monitors.
There is one available on Videogon for a good price.
