Default Was given a pair of Dynaco A-25's

For free. Hooked them up to my Carver HR-772 Receiver in the bedroom rig and put a cd on. Unreal. These very vintage (1969 to mid 70's) speakers sounds really good. I'd read a few reviews on them and was hoping this pair wasn't blown. The guy had them at a garage sale last weekend and no one took them. He was asking $10.00. I gave him a case of Bud and he gave me the speakers and a box of 77 records all in excellent condition with some great titles including two I karma'ed away in the last year. Funny how karma works! Anyway, the Dynaco's sold for under $100 originally which at the time would have been an absolute steal for a great set of bookshelves. I love this hobby.

    Congrats.
I've read a little bit about them.
A man wanted to trade me a pr. for a set of my monitor 5jr. a year ago but I got cash instead. I never saw or heard them. I think I should've at least done that.
Your right, they are supposed to sound great.

Nobody cares what you like Kelvin.

Those things are clear as a bell and almost ruler flat until somewhere in the 50's. I was always a little disappointed in the low end from that 10" two-way though. I wonder what a sealed box would've done.

The A-50's that were here for awhile were interesting. Very easy to listen to.

Actually I do have two Little River Band LP's, all three of Donald Fagen's solo releases but sadly no Michael Smotherman on vinyl.

That's awesome. Glad you're enjoying them. A case of beer for a pair of speakers. Can't beat that, eh?

So you are familiar with Smotherman ehh? I think you may be the only person on this rock that I know of that knows who he is! :D

Any chance of some copies on CD perhaps of Fagen and LRB? My vintage Mitsu Linear TT somehow got lost after loaning it to my bro-law a few years back. :(

Yep. They are in my main rig right now. They don't do everything but what they do is so frickin' smooth.

At one time they were said to be the largest-selling consumer loudspeaker systems. They were in production for a long time. They are quite smooth and nonfatiguing, if not the last word in any quality in particular. Nice SEAS drivers. There is (or at least used to be) a more extended modern tweeter "upgrade" available. Check www.madisound.com if the topic is of any interest.

FWIW, I have my parents' former A-25s in the basement (in rather sad cosmetic shape) and a pair of dump find A-35s (larger cabinets with an internal aperiodic vent, but sealed to the outside world - per George's comment on the A25).
    all the best,

As stated on Madisound's page, you may have to modify the cabinet for the newer woofers.

This evening I dusted off and de-oxitized an old Yamaha CR-800 receiver (circa '74-'76). Found the service manual online and adjusted the main amp section and plugged it in with the Dynaco A-25's a Yammy 5 disk player and an old Technics turntable. These Dynacos just blow my mind for such an old speaker. That old Yamaha receiver sounds pretty good too, and I'd written it off but was saving it for a garage sale. It's now part of the bedroom rig. Only thing wrong with it is all the lamps are blown. Anyone got any 12V 60mA lamps they want to get rid of? Need 4.

Yup, I've had a few pairs over the years and still have a pair in the Garage Rig....not the last word in anything, but they do nothing poorly. Probably one of the greatest bang/buck audio products ever.

I started out with A-50's in the early 70's and added A-25's later. I thought they were very good speakers. Left my wife the A-50's when we split up. Figured she could sell them to a college student if she didn't want them (she was in Raleigh at the time). I kept the A-25's until I got Polk SDA 2's in the 80's. Got my money's worth.
Front - Polk LSi 15, Center - Polk LSi C, Rear - Polk LSi 7
    Subwoofer - Epik Legend

    Amplifier - Outlaw 7125
    Television - 58" Samsung Plasma PN58B860
