Default Don't hit a big bump with your Chyrsler Pacifica

Why? Because the motor mount on the passenger side is mounted to the timing cover. The timing cover is made of aluminum. A chunk of the timing cover snaps off, then a chunk of your wallet is removed.

Not a good day. The idiot engineers designing this crap should have to come to your house and fix it.

I had a buddy with a Ford Contour that did the same thing. Front mount to the transmission housing. Yep, big chunk out of the side of the trans.

    That sucks. Sorry that happened.

    Did you fix it yourself?

Ouch, that hurts! I hope my Cirrus won't have that problem (hopefully not the same motor arrangement?).

My former Cirrus had the 6 cylinders and everything was so cramped in there that it would cost you harm and legs just to replace the spark plugs (3 of them were hidden under the intake manifold). I've learned my lesson and bought the 4 cylinders this time around, not much difference in power to really notice but much more room to work on the motor.

BTW, I wonder when one should worry about replacing the timing chain or belt on those Chrysler?

I would believe so, samething that I know of. The chunk that is missing is more likely what he refers to, unbelievable1

OH hey guys....that is NOT my car. I work in a garage (for those who don't know) and this was a customers' vehicle. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I just like to post interesting things I see and maybe give you guys a heads up on what could potentially be a problem on your own vehicle.

Yep, I would believe yours must have quite a bit more muscle than that considering the cars you've emntioned you had in the past.

However, while this is piss poor design I would believe it was more than a simple bump to destroy that enclosure like that. Do you know of end what kind of bump the owner really hit? Must be a six cylinders really tight in the hood, isn't it?

Looks like they attempted to beef up part of it, on the new one.

the Pacifica (if i am not mistaken) was based primarily on a Mercedes Platform (during the merger of course). does Mercedes do things like that? or perhaps it was a Mercedes platfoem with that design for the motor mounts to shave costs?

thats a shame, as other than this debacle I thought the Pacifica was one of the Chrysler products that had a high reliability rating. this might be because the people that bought them babied them.

I might be in the camp that that was caused by more than a bump......by bump he might have meant a curb doing 40 mph

Actually the other way around.... Mercedes built their "R" series crossovers on a Chrysler Pacifica platform.
