Default Any creative ideas on how to get speakers from Houston to L.A.?

    Hi, folks. Fairly new here.

I'm about to buy some vintage speakers from someone in the Houston area. I live in L.A. I may very well have to spend major cash to fly out there, rent a U haul and drive back...But I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas. I read some threads on shipping that sounded like horror stories...lost or damaged items....That kinda scares me.

    Thanks.

Isn't there a section somewhere on CP to request help like this? Like someone is traveling that way & will deliver?

Like TNRabbit suggested, I'd look for travelers first. Also, maybe people are going like half way with them. If anyone is going from LA to Denver I would be happy to store them in my garage until someone either goes from Denver to Houston or you take the drive.

I had a pair of large speakers shipped from Hawaii to Florida by FEDEX with no problems what so ever.As for all the shipping "horror stories" go,just remember, anything can happen at any time with any shipping company.Shipping is always a gamble but the odds are in your favor. You do realize that everything you buy is shipped from somewhere at sometime or another.Be sure to buy enough insurance to cover a complete loss.If you don't feel comfortable entrusting your goods with someone else, the only option is to pick up/deliver yourself.Maybe you can work something out with the seller to meet you half way.Just a few thoughts, good luck.

Are the speakers worth the extra costs of shipping ? If so use Global, their pretty good but I don't know if they are out your way.

Creative ways eh.....i might suggest balloons.

I like the Uhaul idea. Nothing beats a good road trip with a close friend to make it all worth it!

    I agree 100%!

Have you thought about looking into a freight company. If the speakers were boxed and shrink wrapped on a pallet, I think your chances would be pretty good. Not sure about the cost since I haven't tried it myself.
