Default Really appreciate help on Monitor 50, 60, 70 or...

...something else? First off, I'm an noob-old golden ear wannabe refugee from the late 70's era (think Phase Linear amps, Klipschorns, etc) who forgot what he was missing...anyway, my story is that I had a pair of Rta 11T's that I used for years and loved `em. 3 years ago I didn't have the room for them so I gave them to my brother as I had to go small for my HT setup and decided to upgrade(?) to a Deftech setup with Mythos gems for the fronts and rears, procenter 1000 cener, and a Klipsch sub all hooked to a Denon AVR (mid 90's). I recently upgraded my receiver to a Denon AVR 890/2310 that I got for $400 and thought I was pretty well set, until...

I visited my brother today and listened for a while to the old 11T's, which brought back some very fond memories as well as awakened me to what I was missing. Don't get me wrong, the Mythos gems are very good but the tight bass-full mid-warm hi's of the 11T gave me a sense of longing for them again...they're simply musically superior IMO. So, given all of THAT (TMI, I know) I'd appreciate any/all recommendations for what y`all feel would be a good floorstanding speaker to go with the my current setup (I'd move the front gems to the rear surrounds or zone 2). I'm looking (hoping) to keep the ceiling at about $400/pair as I've been seeing some pretty good deals on discontinued models and/or newer vintage units that don't need too much in the way of restoration. BTW GREAT forum, I had no idea that Polk had such a devoted following but it doesn't really surprise me as I've always been a fan, just never knew that the "club" existed....TIA for any opinions!

    Steve,
Welcome to Club Polk. The monitor 70's are solid speakers that could be found for under your $400 budget. But if its the vintage sound you like, why not look for another pair of 11T's or something similar? The RTa15TL's pop up every now and then for around $400, or better yet, you could grab a piar of SDA1's or 2's for about that price. Also, you're going to want to drive them properly, so you'll probably be in the market for a new pre/pro and an amp before long. Good luck and hang on to your wallet . .

Thanks Dom! I could go with the 70's, just stop there and be pretty happy I think...but the 15TL's or SDA's are intriguing for sure, and you're right about the wallet because I remember what "the fever" was like and one can get out of control pretty quickly.
