Denon 5800 on screen setup

I posted on this before but thought maybe some new engineers might read it or someone may have a new idea.

Despite all of my efforts, including reading the manual in 3 languages, I cannot get the on screen set up to appear. I know how to do this with my other receivers, and while this one is a little more complicated....you have to go through about 5 steps.....I cannot get it...

so...if there is a breakdown...I assume it is in some discrete part or microprocessor that displays on the screen and that it might be replaced??

I would like to move this unit and go back to a B&K I was using as part of my down sizing....but I don't want to pass it on with this problem...which is the only issue it has.

Lots of looks....no answers....I just swapped out some speakers in the system, so a review of the set up would be nice. I am going to check Denon forums and see what I might discover.

Are you using the right output on the receiver? By that, I mean, my Denon AVR-787 will output it only to the composite, s-video or component output. The HDMI output will not display it at all. In addition, the component output will only display the on-screen menu when there is nothing going to the particular component input that is selected.

I'd suggest trying to get the menu via the composite output, and make sure no signal is going into the input at the time. If that doesn't work, there might be something wrong with your receiver.

I am sure you all have been wondering. After Denon responded to my email within about 36 hours, I tried a fairly complicated fix to get the on screen menu. It did not work.

They then had me "initialize" the microprocessor through a combination of shut down and reboot type thing....AND, YES, it worked.....I now have my set up menu back....now, if I only knew what all the choices meant......(just kidding).......

That's interesting. Denons are not the 'easiest' beasts to wrestle with and the manuals--well, let's not even go there. I know! I've read, re-read, and read sections of mine again, then read 'between the lines to figure something out. My favorite is how on some Denons there is no simple way to increase or decrease the BASS and TREBLE. You have to hit the parameter button first and then there at least two or three more steps. I mean WHO designs something like that and why?

In any case....great news about the resolution. What did you think of Denon's CS (customer service) BTW?
