Smile my first and only sda experience

in the early 80s, i worked in the warehouse for an atlanta chain called stereo village. never made enough money to buy anything worthwhile, but i still remember steve engstrom taking me into the higher end speaker room, putting a stevie wonder VIDEOTAPE into a player that was, at the time{pre cd} the best fidelity playback available.

he knew i liked the bose 901s sound, and i thought that was high fidelity and one of a kind. He said, here is what they pretend to be doing. He had placed a chair just soin the small room, turned on the reggae tune from the stevie album and i was astounded.

I felt i could reach out and touch the bongos, I thought someone was in the room singing right next to me.i have never been able to afford sdas but i have never forgotten that experience, and i certainly understand the obsession those who have these guys experience after hearing them.

By the way, anyone who might remember the type of tape deck from the early 80s that used vidotape,{dont know if it was beta or vhs}. it was about 2500 dollars, we only had sold 2 units, one to a doctor living on park avenue, and one doc who lived in atlanta.

just a great memory, then i went back to lugging big old crt tvs and klipsch speakers as big as a china cabinet all day. selah

Sony also made a separate digital recording processor for use with a VCR.

    Wink dont own sdas

just a few months ago, I got into cl and was able to afford better gear. thanks to this forum I slowly began to learn what the better stuff was.

I have yet to run across sdas that were cheap enough for me to afford without needing extensive reworking, which is not my thing.

also that may be the player we had, I remember it being large and clunky, it was 30 years ago, just a few minutes of dealing with it. but it was a dark color faceplate and the tape faced forward. thanks for the pic and the trip down memory lane.
