When I was in my late teens early 20s, I would drive exhausted out of necessity. My way of dealing with it even in the dead of winter was to blast the radio, blast the AC and even stick my head out the window to get fresh air, constantly keep moving by messing around with all the controls on the dash to keep myself cognizant. I've gone so far as to pull over, walk around the car a few time and resume driving. Needless to say I never fell asleep at the wheel but yes I agree with you Ron. However, sometimes road hypnosis etc just comes on you so fast that you just don't realize you are nodding out.

Definitely a lucky SOB with angels on his shoulder.

i'd be interested to see, after all math involved, how fast one would have to be going in order for the guardrail to pierce the engine block or the vehicle as a whole (can't really tell from pictures) with enough momentum to travel 90 feet down the rail.

He'd have to be going about a million miles an hour to pierce the engine block with a guard rail. I'm sure the guard rail just deflected around the engine and ripped the body panel, and it just looks gnarly.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
