    Default Torn hamstring anyone?

Yup, I'm feeling the effects today...Partially tore my left hamstring last night running the bases in softball practice; hurts like hell. The worst part is I now can't do ANYTHING for the next 4-6 weeks. It was a CRAZY feeling; literally felt a "pop" in the back of my leg.

And the kicker is I really don't care about softball, but have to miss out on Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu now for the next month to month and a half. Sort of pissed, but it's my own fault. I didn't stretch prior to practice, and as per my doctor "you're getting old, you need to be more careful now."

Moral of the story= get your stretch on before doing anything strenuous. 5 minutes could have saved me a month or 2 of rehab time...

I know exactly what you're saying. I had surgery for a torn meniscus and acl a little over a year ago. Set me back at least six months in my combat Hapkido training. It's all good to go now, but I dinged the other knee a few months back and am trying to rehab it without going the surgery route again. Sad thing is I know I'll have to have it repaired eventually, but I'm trying to hold off and see if I can test for my black belt in December or January before having it fixed and dealing with another setback. I get very frustrated knowing I could be performing better than I am currently.

Yup. When I did it, I was remodeling our kitchen. The problem for me was I was coaching soccer, and it took close to a year for it to heal.

I've also torn my bicep, and that one really hurt.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

The healing time is completely dependent on the severity of the tear (grade?) and the location (high, low, mid belly, medial, lateral). The higher or lower and in a tendinous locations takes much longer to heal. Mid belly is best case scenario, but still is a pain literally. Lots of research right now going on as to how to most effectively rehab these and it seems the overwhelming majority of therapists now agree that loading the hamstring during rehab is the best way. If you want more info feel free to PM me and I will help any way that I can.

Interesting. I've got some pt exercises, but I'd love to hear what you thought Shawn. Would be very much appreciated.
