    Default Virtue Audio 'Nirvana' Cables

Since some of you love to dabble around with relatively affordable cables, I wanted to share a recent 'discovery' with you all. Now don't go expect anything as wickedly awesome as the Pangea AC-9. Still, this is good for what it is.

For more info, check out the tiny article over at www.sonicflare.com

    Hey Maurice,

Thanks man. I'd love to take credit for the site, but it ain't my design. You'd think it was though, considering that I'm pretty much the only person left posting there. Oh well, I love the 'control' that it allows me. :D

    Starkiller,

Mike makes a good cable. With that said, I feel that his MA1's, MA3's, and SP3's all err towards the "light, airy, quick, and detailed" side of the aural sliding scale. To some people, and on some systems, this is a great thing! The added sense of resolution can be wonderful and bring on a huge "WOW" factor. But this type of presentation can be double edged sword.

Team up those Morrow's with a tube based system (or any system thats composed of warm sounding electronics/speakers), and there's a good chance that you will absolutely love what you hear from the little Morrow's. On the flip side, pairing them with very linear/detail oriented system may result in 'too much of a good thing' And therein lies the problem with the Morrow Audio cables. They have a distinct way of making music. Either they'll work well in your system, or they wont.

The reason why I like and even prefer the Virtue Audio Nirvana's over say, the MA1's, is because they are far more balanced across the aural spectrum. While they won't give you the kind of speed and articulation that the MA1's provide, they also won't sound as thin throughout the midrange or bass. And... they are flat out easier to work with in terms of system matching. I'm not saying that they will always sound better than their competitors in every system. I'm just saying that the Nirvana's stand a better chance of integrating more easily into a wider cache of audio systems.

    Hope that answers your questions!

More or less :) I took the plunge on the MA1, the price of course was great, and was going to use those from my phono pre to my tube preamp. I have a tube amp, preamp, tuner and cd player...so it sounds like the ma1's might do great as ic's for all those then? or???

Running an all tube rig? Good man! Those MA1's should work well in that rig. Mike gives you a real generous trial period. I say - rock on! If you can spare some change and bring in a set of Nirvana's for comparison, all the better. You never truly know how something will work in your system until ya try it out. Meanwhile, enjoy the music!

Can i assume it would be best to change ALL cables over to say MA1's or mix and match or??? gets kinda expensive. and that doesnt count the change over to the Pangea ac-14 you reviewed, i have one of the ac-9's in one of the 3 systems and i remember it sounded good.

    Starkiller,

There's really no steadfast rule when it comes to mixing and matching cables, though most people tend to keep with the same product ilk, especially when it comes to interconnects. Count me in as one of those people. :) Also, I wouldn't worry to much about upgrading everything all at once. Baby steps will suffice.

Oh yeah, I riffed about the AC-9's, not the AC-14's. :p :D I still have two of those garden hoses hanging around.

oops, yeah, with the pangea i have the 14, not the 9...let me know if you want to rid yourself of the garden hoses :)

baby steps it will have to be as funds are tight...thats the reason for selling the carver and bottlehead....
