A/v entry level help!

I haven't decided yet which pair to get, TSi300 or Monitor 60 but I think I'll go for the cheapest, anyway

I know these are cheap but all Im gonna use it for will be movies, it means no ps3, no xbox, just bluray and perhaps the ipod

Honestly Amazon has a refurbished Denon 1910 for $299 from an authorized dealer with one year warranty. It's a HUGE step up from those two, i'd also consider the Pioneer vsx920 for $299. If you're dead set on the 2 i'd go with the Denon.

For about $200 more you can get this unit with pre-amp outputs for $494 shipped and it will allow you to grow.

Your receiver is the centerpiece of your system. If you get less you will likely be disappointed and will upgrade at a higher cost.

I agree with getting an AVR with pre-outs. You may never use them, but you'll be sick if you want to add an amp but aren't able to do so.

The H/K's I've heard have a warmer sound than either Onyko or Denon.

Hi guys,

I bought 3X RM6751 for my surround system(7.1)

I put them as L/C/R in the front instead of the SONY SS-MSP1 speakers.

My A/V system is from SONY STR-DG1100
the side as well the back speakers are still Sony SS-MSP1.
I did a auto calibration (many times).
The front speakers are detected as large !!
crossover = 40Hz
site & back = 190Hz
I changed the front to small and readjusted
the crossover to 80Hz

When I listen recorded music(CD)I ear some distortion in the middle range from the polk
speakers.
Why ?
I check The polarization from each speaker(7)
everything is correct.
any suggestion what could be wrong ?

Well the pre-out thing.... in the back of the receiver what should look for? Ive seen the PREPUT for the sub

Its $350 and I can afford it however looks like it lacks few features including the hdmi 1.4a (i dont have plan on gettin a 3D tv)

I read PIONEER also makes WARM sounding receiver. What about this one: VSX 920K

For about $400 and apparently works great, bang for the buck.... anybody has this pioner, any review on it?

dont think either of those have pre-out. On the back of the receiver it will say pre-out within a "bank" of rca jacks.

The Onkyo 608 would power those speakers very nicely and is a great reciever. I have last years model, the 607 and love it. Easy "Audysey" setup tool.

I know too many questions may be annoying and this one does not belong here but...

I just saw this one on amazon: Klipsch RF10 for $140

Compared with Monitor 50 ($100) and/or TSi 300($200), what do you think, are the RF10 better than these 2 or should I go for the polks?? thanks!!!

I think the main difference is going to be the type of sound the horn of the Klipsch makes, in comparison to the Polk tweeters.

People can argue for hours about which is better. What really matters is the type of sound you enjoy.

My suggestion: See if you can audition any of the above speakers.

In regards to receivers, I agree with everybody on this forum...preouts are a great idea. If you're primary goal is HT, then I'd probably go with a Pioneer...but this might change depending on the models and brands your comparing.

Throw the forum a few more receivers that you're looking at...I'm sure we'd be more than willing to give you more feedback.
