Angry my buddy tells me..."polk audio is cheap junk."

okay.... I am normally an observer on this forum and i like to learn... and i usually don't post anything but..... this got my panties in a SERIOUS knot. my friend tells me that my polk system is cheap junk!! at this point i want to choke him out. when comparing it to his nuance system he feels that is god like. honestly there is a reason nuance went out of business..they have garbage radio shack quality drivers...and as we watch a movie at moderate listening levels his garbage 5 year old kenwood amp goes into protect mode!! and the drivers are twisting and they are bending like tacos!! i was afraid it was gonna blow!! guess what his excuse is? "yeah uhhhh... the cat hair is clogging the cooling vents... it needs external fans." wow!!!! my dad loves infinity so i have no polkies on my side... my system is far from junk..... i have a harmon kardon hd7550, rti150 fronts, csi a6 center, rtia 1 rears, and rtia 1 rear backs and 2 psw pro 500's for subs... i hardly consider this cheap junk. well i kinda feel better and thanks for listening. jeeez!!! cheap junk. barrrf!!!

I actually was surprised that nobody ever mention Nuance anywhere. I had thought that they were a higher end speaker back before i discovered Polk Audio and this forum.

A funny story. My brother inlaw was looking at buying his first house system years ago and he went out looking for H/K and Bose. He ended up listening to a Nuance system at a store and thought it sounded quite good actually and was surprised how well the front speakers could imitate surround sound (the salesman actually used this as a BIG selling feature).

He then went to another dealer who sold Marantz and Energy, had a listen and was very impressed. When he told the dealer about how good the 2 channel Nuance system recreated surround sound the dealer told him that he used to sell Nuance at that particular store and that he should go back and take a disk of his own to demo. He went back with his own disk and they wouldn't play it. Turned out they were using a specially recorded disk to fool people into believing that Nuance speakers could do things other brands couldn't. He ended up buying the Marantz and Energy setup.

so simply put nuance speakers work best with "Q sound encoded discs" which with certain discs do sound good. they give a spatial 3D sound... but with your own disc... is a different story. boooooo!!!! sound great in the show room with the madonna cd's. in the right enviroment. he also had a quest sub. damn! oh well got to get it out to feel better!!

Choke him out. When he wakes up, take him to a couple audio/video spots and audition some gear. Get some grub. Choke him out again.

Well let's be somewhat honest here. I'm sure some here don't like some of the speakers Polk has made. Some may even say some are junk.

My least favorite Polk speaker to date is the RTi70.

That was my last Polk speaker I ever owned.

Well at least I can say I don't like some of Polks speakers.. There are some center speakers I don't like as well as some Subwoofers.

I don't like the 15tl's some do, I think the RTiA9's blow them away. Some would disagree. It's all in the the ear of the beholder.

Also I know the gear that is matted to some speakers makes all the difference as well.. I could go over someone elses house that has the 15tl's and be blown away. Cause the room is different as well as the gear they are using. They didn't WOW me..

very well said my friend....but! a h/k amp with rti a series sounds mint as compared to an old a$$ kenwood with nuance speakers. i now i have old rti 150's as fronts but they are comparable to rti a 9's...not as big of drivers...but still... i love my rti 150's they are awesome and still under driven with my 110 rms harmon kardon but still a high current amp@ 60+amps

    Mike,
Most people you encounter in life will always have an opinion. Will they share the same opinion you do? Probabally not. However to each his own, that is what makes the world go around!
Most likely your friend is jeaulous of your system in some way, and he also understands how
passionate your are about it. So what else can he do but insult you? Take it with a grain of salt as someone aforementioned already.

Did he seriously say that "Polk is cheap junk"? If so, tact is obviously not a strong point. I can't imagine going to someone's house and telling them something they have is cheap junk.

Nope, Nuance and Fluance are 2 different entities. Heard some good things about Fluance while I never heard anything good about Nuance. White van speakers! Nuance are boobie traps for people that think that the more they pay the better speakers. Huge MSRPs that after negotiationg you think you are getting a good deal. Tell your buddy he either has a fat wallet or lots of credit but NO hears!
