Annoying “features” in gear

Does any of your electronics have an annoying feature? One that appears to be overwhelmingly, if not 100%, useless?


My Sony XA5400ES SACD player is a great player, but it has an annoying feature that drives me crazy since it is so useless. When I turn the display off, it displays “Display Off” for 3 seconds, and then goes black. When I turn the display on, it displays “Display On” for 3 seconds, and then shows the display.

Just turn the display off and on, and stop the useless messages.

The PS3 added a feature via one of the firmware updates that fades out the screen when you scroll through your saved music.

This means when searching for songs you have to keep scrolling at all times or everything disappears except whatever you happen to have selected. Very annoying.

I hate all the networking crap they include in some equipment. I couldn't care less about accessing the internet while I'm watching my movie--just stupid.

How about measurement bars for bass/mid/treble trim in graphic UI's instead of +/- # in dB.

I have another one. My DAC (Bryston BDA-1) will have either 3, or 4 (upsampling on), LEDs lit while in use. I can look at it, and easily see it is turned on. When it is turned off, the LEDs go off. Good. However, a bright RED LED turns on when the unit is off. BAD. I do not need a RED LED to tell me the unit is off. The other LEDs are off. Even worse, this useless LED is straight ahead at eye level burning into my retina. So, now it is covered with a piece of black electrical tape. Good.

You haven't seen the blue LED on the PEAVEY IPR 1600. You could signal ships with it.
