    Default Polk Cabling System?

    Newbie here.

Wife's brother just gave me the pair of Monitor 7's he bought in '82. Along with them was a set of heavy-guage cables connecting to the speaker input binding posts which were bridged + to - by a "Polk Cabling Systems"-branded electrolytic capacitor of indeterminate value. Can anyone tell me the purpose of these caps? Thanks in advance.

Sorry for taking so long to reply - just got my camera working. I've loaded the image onto my computer, but I can't figure out how to upload it to a reply. The "insert link" and "insert image" options both require a URL, and the image is only resident on my computer.

Load the picture on your PC then click "Go Advanced" below the text box and choose "Manage Attachments," click browse and browse your PC until you find the image and select it then click "upload."

Interesting. I'm thinking the caps have something to do with the Polk Cobra speaker cables.

mainexile, can you post a pic of the speaker cables?

I'll try to get it tomorrow. They're in the garage/workshop (unheated), and it's a bit chilly up here tonight. I spent a good part of the day out there, and my fingers are still frozen LOL. Thanks. Steve

Ok. Does it have a clear jacket with a lot of green and gold colored wires running thru it?

There are red and gold versions too, almost always with tinned ends.

Ok you have the Polk Cobra speaker cables. They were infamous for blowing up amps back in the day. I'd venture a guess that the cap was added to help prevent damaging the amp.

That is correct as far as I know. I've only seen a couple of those in person, very neat.
