Default Audio Cable choice, Receiver Choice

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and new to hifi family. I purchase two polk audio monitor 70 on newegg. My questions is do the speakers come with cables? if not what kind of cable should I get.
Also, I need a receiver, so which receiver is good within 300-500 price range. I was looking at ONKYO TX-SR608 for 370
    OR there is better choice.
I use these speakers mainly for listening to classic music
Do I need to get a better CD player?

Thanks for everyone's help. Hope I can find some solutions here

    Welcome to CP.

    SPeaker cables are not included.

BlueJeanscables is a good starting point or signalcable.

For AVR you will get a lot of recommendations to get one with preouts to power and external amp for better amplification to your mains. May not do it now but the audio journey will lead you there. In your price range most likely a Yamaha.

What CD player do you have?
Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)
Preamp: Joule Electra LA-150 MKII SE
Amp: Wright WPA 50-50 EAT KT88s
    Analog: Marantz TT-15S1 MBS Glider SL| Wright WPP100C Amperex BB 6er5 and 7316 & WPM-100 SUT
    Digital: Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core i5 8g RAM 1.5 TB HDD Music Server Amarra (memory play) - USB - W4S DAC 2
Cables: Mits S3 IC and Spk cables| PS Audio PCs

Ofc: Wright WLA12 preamp: Anthem Amp 1: Pio Elite DV-79AVI: Airport Express: CAL Sigma II DAC: PA LS90 sonicaps and mills

    Thank you

Any website that sells these cables? Which type of cable should I get?

If I do not get an AVR now, I wouldn't be able to use the speakers. Right?
So far, I will stick with these two speakers, and maybe next month I will get a polk audio CS2, but the thing bothers me is which AVR should I get there are so many choices.
I look at newegg ratings, and ONKYO TX-SR608 seems like have a very good rating.

I have a cheap DVD player now, which plays CDs, but I think many AVR can play music from an IPOD right?

    Welcome to Polk forum.

2 sources for speaker cables (good to get started and you can upgrade later):

    http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10239

Go 16AWG or thicker (smaller gauge number) and terminate with banana plugs if applicable or desired.

Enjoy your speakers and the start of a wonderful audio journey.

    Welcome to Club Polk.
For I receiver under $500, I would suggest the Pioneer VSX-1120K.
It has great iPod connecivity and preamp outputs to allow you to drive an external amplifier.

For speaker wire, sub cable and HDMI cable, consider the Phoenix Gold Wiring Kit at the Polk accessories store.
    Includes 2 50ft 16g speaker Cable reels, 1 13ft Mono Sub Cable, and 1 3.3ft HDMI Cable

For just a touch over 500, you might consider the Onkyo tx-nr708 and the Yamaha RX-V1900. I have listened to both and like them. I currently own the Yamaha 1900. Newegg has both at good prices.

I own a couple of these Pioneer PD-F407 CD players.
It plays 25 discs with good quality. No remote control.
    http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PD-F40...dp/B0002ZQHFA/

I also have a couple of the Pioneer PD-F1009 CD players.
It plays 301 CD's with good quality, has a digital output and a remote.
    http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PD-F10...dp/B00004RDL5/

I also have the Pioneer Elite DV-48AV DVD/CD/SACD player, however these are pretty much discontinued now.
They are a nice unit if you can get one for around $100.

Did you know that many BluRay players are excellent CD players?
They are just relatively slow to load and start.
The OPPO83 does it all including SACD's.

I would recommend a Harmon Kardon 240-watt Stereo Receiver, model no. HK-3490, many times available from Amazon or JR for $300 shipped.

For cables the Belden 500 series cable Blue Jeans has or the MonoPrice equivalent would be great choices....12 or 14GA would be good for most runs.

For a source look for a CD/DVD Player that supports SACD and you will be in for some great Classical listening.

Thanks everyone! I will look through these receivers, but I really don't know which one is a good choice for me. Any ways that can define a receiver that fits my need?

I love your Onkyo choice and would suggest stepping up into a better, and equally modestly priced cable from Signal Cable.

I have the older version of the Onkyo that your looking into, the 607, love it, but I don't have pre outs, which now I have to go back, upgrade my AVR and then buy a pre amp. With that being said, I'd make you a good deal on the 607, which is great. Good luck, welcome to Club Polk.

I would also suggest the Onkyo TX-NR708. I have an 808 and am really happy with it. The network features are kind of cool. We used ours briefly as a pre-amp and the music streaming was a big hit.

As far as speaker wire go with 12-16 guage. i would go with everyone elses advice about getting a receiver that has preouts for an amp because eventually your gonna want more power. The 7xx series onkyo will suit your needs. You can probably find a nice used you for a great price.
