Default Need help from you computer nerds out there

I know there are members that are much more pc savvy than me...which really does not take much!

My delima is, my computer does not "see" my 8GB SDHC card. I'm running Vista with SP2. I tried 3 different hot fixes from MS but each time when installing I get the message that they do not apply to my system. Not sure what else to try except get a card with less than 8GB as it seems the problem is somehow related to the size of the card?

Is it a laptop with a built-in SD slot?

Does it do ANYTHIGN when you plug in the card (even make the little windows "you plugged osmething in" sound?) Do other size SD cards work, just not this one?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I have a smaller SD card that it reads fine...1gb I think. It's a desktop with card slots in the tower. Normally when a card is inserted my importing software pops up. With this card nothing happens...if I try to open the drive the pc basically tells me nothing is there.

It most likely has to do with your card reader. Might try to see if there is an update on the manufactures website, purchase a usb card reader, or insert it into a phone or another device and connect the device to your PC using usb.
    Setup:

    2 Channel: Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand, Dared SL-2000A , B&K ST-202 , DacMagic
PC: Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand, Cambridge Azur 640A v2, Polk MicroPro 3000, Audioquest Dragonfly
Cables: AQ Diamondback, Sidewinder, Kimber 4tc

Vista had issues reading cards 8gb or greater. Find out if you're running 32-bit or 64-bit and try this if you haven't already: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825

If that's not the issue, then the problem is that your card reader is incompatible with the SDHC format or dual-voltage cards, which would explain why it reads a 1gb SD card. Easiest fix for that would be to buy a cheap USB card reader.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

I would lean more towards this being the slot. I can read SD cards in my laptop and my wife's laptop, but SDHC cards do not work. It doesn't recognize them at all. you might try another reader or to use a MICRO-SD card and put that into a USB adaptor, which i found to be faster than the SD cards i was using on that laptop (YMMV). Something like the following that uses the MICRO SD Card, but has adaptors that go into anything under the sun.

I have never found a USB slot that didn't accept one of these and work without a hitch.

My guess is also that the card reader is not picking up the SDHC card. New reader, or using a non-sdhc card is the answer.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Do you have a printer? Many newer ones these days have a card reader built in. If so, you could try that.
