SL-1000 to Peerless swap?

I just picked up my Monitor 12b RTAs finally and they have the SL-1000 tweeters in them.
IIRC the SL-1000 was the replacement for the Peerless.
Can I just make a direct swap to the Peerless tweeters or do I need to do anything to make them 100% compatible?

Just make sure you wire them with the phase correct.

If memory serves black wire = +, white wire = -
on the speakers, the terminal with the red dot or cardboard spacer is +
If you have the tweeters oriented so the front looks like /o\ rather than \o/,
then when you look at the back or either the SL-1000 or the Peerless, the
+ terminal is on the left.

Phase is understood.
My concern is that making the "backward" swap might need a slight adjustment in cap or resistor value to equalize them.
I coundn't find a link I was looking for but I THINK I remember reading that they were close but not identical.

The schematics don't show the tweeter model numbers, but the inductors, capacitors,
and resistor for the original seems to have all the same values as the ones in the
revised crossover, except for the fuse vs protector, and I think the fused (original) had
peerless and the protector equipped one (revised) had the SL-1000 in most cases.
By the way, the black/white wiring convention I posted applies to the Monitor 10, 10a and 10b,
but it looks like it it might be the other way around for the RTA 12b tweeter section according
to the schematics.

It is a straight swap from SL1000 to RDO-194.

The SL1000 was used pre-SL2000. But it is way harsh and wasn't used very long.

I swapped out the SL-1000 for the Peerless an hour ago or so. There's a nice difference in the Peerless. It's got a more filling and detailed sound. I put the SL-1000s in my Monitor 7s and they sound great in the 7s. I'd guess most of the difference is the larger sound stage of the 12b's blend better with the Peerless. The SL-1000 seems nice in the M7s.
Stock caps will soon be replaced with Sonicap and Jantzens.
I'm going to be looking for some original 12" Polk passives also. These have been redone and are stiffer than I like. .

HB, I'm contemplating swapping some Peerless into some SRS2s that were built with SL2000s, it might be interesting, might not. I really wish there was a sticky thread explaining the differences between the Peerless,RDOs 194 & 198 and the originals-1000,2000,2500 & 3000. Dicussions about the technical specifications would be very helpful in addition to ones on the sonic properties. I still haven't figured out why the 198 is liked so much more than the 194 ! What is it about them that makes them non-interchangeable, ohms/impedance/spl@1watt??? PS: another sticky thread addressing the many MW6.5" driver models would be nice too. (IMO):)

I agree with ya 100%. I'd like to learn more also.
I have a feeling some of the founding fathers on the forums have discussed this in detail before but it would be nice to have this knowledge base imprinted in my memory banks.

RDO-194 and 198 look almost identical. This is the 194.

NO it is NOT a straight swap. As far as the second comment....no idea what you're saying.

The SL1000 and Peerless can be swapped without turmoil but CANNOT be swapped with a SL2000/2500/3000 or RD series without cabinet modification. Reason? The frame of the tweeter is smaller than the others.

Easy Champ, I meant the peerless but wrote RDO-194. Why? who knows.

As far as the second comment. The SL1000-Silver Face was used pre-SL2000 at which point the SL1000 was discontinued. Understand now sweet cheeks?

The RTA12 used everything from the Peerless, SL1000 to the SL2000. That series is a historical mess.
