    Default SDA Hierarchy

So many models, thought this might be a good reference thread. Anyone care to break down the list, start at the bottom and work up? If this works out well, a Monitor and RTA thread would be nice to start also.

The word 'hierarchy' only returns 2 matches, so keeping the thread subjects 'rta hierarchy' etc would be great for future searches.

I don't want to ask for too much, but if we could get a definitive list with as much additional info as possible, that would be GREAT. (msrp, freq resp, driver compliment, yrs in production, etc)

    Cheers,
    Russ

Punch in SDA history in the search frame. It'll lead you to a thread I started several months ago.

    Post SDA Generations

    1st Generation (1982): SDA 1.

2nd Generation (1983): SDA 1A, SDA 2, and SDA CRS.

3rd Generation (1985): SDA 1B, SDA 2A, SDA CRS+. The 3rd Generation also marked the introduction of the "Signature Reference Series" (SRS) line: SDA SRS, and SDA SRS 2.

4th Generation (1987): SDA SRS 1.2, SDA SRS 2.3, SDA 1C, SDA 2B, and SDA CRS+. All SDA speakers received crossover and cabinet upgrades.

5th Generation (1989): SDA SRS 1.2TL, SDA SRS 2.3TL, SDA SRS 3.1TL, SDA 1C, SDA 2B, SDA CRS+. The 5th Generation of SDAs saw the introduction of the SL3000 tweeter in the SRS line. The SL3000 tweeter provided a flatter, more acurate frequency response than the SL2000 tweeter. The SL2000 had a +5 dB resonance at 13,000 Hz.

    SDAs ceased production in 1991.

Now would be a good time for the company to bring out a 20th Anniversary Edition SDA Line. :D

Thanks guys, for the link and the info.

Raife, what makes the 'SRS' well, 'SRS' (other than the groovy nameplate?? Was that just the label applied to the 2 'largest' in the line?

I take it my SRS 2's are fairly rare then? I'm just now trying to learn all the models, was the SRS 2 essentially replaced by the 1c (or would that be it's closest equivelant?)

    Post SRS Series

According to the marketing brochures of the time, the SRS series was Matthew Polk's own reference quality "dream speakers" that he designed for his own listening pleasure. Hence, the name Signature Reference System. However, I seem to remember Matt stating in one of his interviews that his personal tastes had migrated toward smaller speakers. This would have been around the time he got married. It seems that even audio company CEOs can fall victim to the dreaded WAF (wife acceptance factor).

The SDA SRS 2 was replaced by the SDA SRS 2.3.

The SRS 2, like the SRS 3.1TL is fairly rare. I don't know if that is because those models were made in fewer numbers, or if it is because people hold on to them.

Because while using SDA technology they were not part of the original SDA series which ended with the TL versions.
