    Default Which Panny model?

Looking for a plasma for the bedroom price would be willing to go would be 1100 and less.

So far I found a Panny 1080P plasma G series at best buy with a 5mil:1 contrast, and decent black levels, but nothing like the kuros.

Size I would like to stick to above 42 and less than 50 or so.

Being used for Movies only and I want great blacks, like as close to a kuro you could get without it being a kuro (and the price tag lol).

PS I'm willing to buy used, from where ever really. I honestly won't be using it a ton but when I do I want the best pic I can get for the money. Currently been using a 46" LCD Samsung that got sold and need something in its place.

I like my S2 model but another member said there is another model better than the S series. That should be the one you want to get.

Would suggest either the TC-P46G25 or the TC-P50G25. They do have a 54" model as well, but its bigger than you posted you wanted.

The G25 line is the highest line that doesnt do 3d (which your paying a buttload extra for currently). Dont remember what the difference between the G20 & G25 series is, but might be worth checking out.

If I were you I would wait till black Sunday to see what they have to offer. The higher the Panny plasma the better. I looked at there V25 series and the blacks were outstanding. Very close to the Kuro. I think the 50" runs about $1800 and worth the extra money.

I have bought two Panasonic plasmas, 42" and 50", from Amazon.com. They ship it for free and no sales tax. You could definitely get a better TV for less from them over Best Buy.

Great TV for the price. If you want Kuro Blacks then you will pay out your butt for a Kuro. Panny has amazing sets for the price and you can not go wrong the above.

Any reason you're limited to Panasonic?

I've always assumed Panasonic to be the best, but have done lots of research and testing and bought a Samsung last Friday.

This is the one I was looking at getting the most.

I'm not limited to Panny only, but something to give Kuro like blacks. The above TV measures very well for black levels and color ac. in THX mode which is what really got me with it.

Is it really something like $500+ to ship that tv from amazon? If so this maybe a better price overall.

Some of these Panasonic models including the G25 series were losing Black level Performance after about 1 yr of use. These Black Levels Decreased according to what I have read from reviews, including C-Net Reviews. As already mentioned above, Samsung also have Great sets and offer Excellent Bang for the Buck performance. At least compare the Samsung sets before you Buy.

Yep, panny's blacks will rise over time but even when they do 99% of people don't even notice it. They are still darker then 99% of TV's out there today.

I was told that the latest Panny V series plasmas use the same technology as the Kuros because Panny bought the Pioneer plasma business when Pioneer decided to get out of the flat panel business. Panny then applied the Kuro technology to the V series. Anyone else heard this?

Same thing I heard, but they didn't start off where Pioneer ended. The V series look outstanding but still a year or two behind Pioneer.

Pioneer must not have given them the entire formula.

More likely Panasonic doesn't use the entire formula. Pioneer couldn't bring the price of their plasmas down. And now they're out of the market. Not a mistake Panasonic would want to make too.

The higher end Panasonics aren't cheap either. Pioneer is only out of the market because they didn't offer any lower end plasmas like samsung and Panasonic does. Not everyone can afford a $5000 TV.

Thanks guys.... This forum helped me decide on what kind of tv to buy. I was in the dark ages with my analog 36" sharp. I went to look at the sharp 52" led and ended up purchasing the 50" panny plasma.
This is my first flat screen tv.

I don't think even the Panny 3D sets come close to these prices. They were about twice the price of comparable Pannys at the time. While true, not everyone can afford a $5000 TV, Pioneer was just about the only one making sets like these at this price point. Wonderful inky blacks that fade into the jet black bezel of the TV. But you had to pay a premium for it.

You're shopping at the wrong places then. 'Cause the 65" vt25 retails for $4,299.95 and can be had for less. It's also 3D.

I bought this model 3 months ago and it's been outstanding thus far...not quite the level of the Kuro, but nothing comes closer than the Panny plasmas IMO.

Last year on Boxing day I bought my panny plasma and have been very happy with it. It is just the U series but it has performed very well thus far. I havn't noticed any decline in black levels.

I was actually hoping there'd be something more tempting along these lines for Black Friday, but no. I'm thinking of getting a 46-inch Panasonic plasma and was wondering--other than the VieraCast features--is there a difference between the S2 series and the G20/G25? According to the Amazon compare chart, it's just that and that the G series has "infinite black". Price difference is about $250, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to step up to the G series.

Here is what else the $250 gets you on the G25 model. THX Certification, Higher static contrast ratio, A PC VGA input, PC Audio input, 2 USB media ports, Ethernet Port, Wi Fi Connectivity, Music playback ( Avchd,Mpeg2 ), Built in content Library and Sub Pixel Control. These extra features may or maynot be worth the extra $250 to you.
